We The Nerdy - Kyle Simcox
Oct 04, 2018If you were a fan of the Superior Spider-Man series, then do yourself a favor and pick up The Superior Octopus #1. The ending is great and offers a really cool revelation about Otto's current state. If it doesnt get you hyped for the upcoming Spider-geddon event, then itll certainly give you something to look forward to when December rolls around and The Superior Spider-Man returns. Oct 03, 2018The final Spider-Geddon prequel should assure readers that they're in good hands with Christos Gage who writes a compelling, smart, character-driven narrative full of fun twists and turns. However, the follow-up "Check In" story here doesn't fare as well. Read Full Review

Monkeys Fighting Robots - Matthew Sardo
Oct 04, 2018There is no way The Superior Octopus #1 should be any good. The character is a spin-off of a spin-off, clones are involved, the Brothers Grimm make an appearance, the book is set in San Francisco where Spider-Man spin-offs go to die. Yet, Christos Gage writes a compelling story loaded with heart, and as goofy as Doctor Octopus is, his arrogance is entertaining. Read Full Review

Oct 03, 2018I don't know about you, but I definitely feel as though Otto Octavius's new super hero strategies may make Spider-Man regret letting him free following the events of Superior Octopus #1. He is not your average superhero, and doesn't play by the same rules. This is a refreshing series for anyone who wants storytelling that will without a doubt change the way you look at superhero comics. Read Full Review

Oct 06, 2018This kickoff issue is so much fun and presents such a neat new take on a superhero that I'm rather disappointed it's not going to be a proper ongoing series. Read Full Review

Comics: The Gathering - Charles Martin
Oct 03, 2018Superior Octopus #1 is a comic that serves two masters. It's a pump-up issue that promotes both the imminent Spider-Geddon event and the idea of an ongoing Otto Octavius story. The former is going to happen no matter what. The latter idea needs some reader support. This issue is a fine example of what that Otto comic would be like and a strong argument in favour of launching it. Let Marvel know: Otto deserves another star turn! Read Full Review

Oct 03, 2018With a darker look and heady ideas The Superior Octopus #1 is a new kind of Spider for the West Coast. Tying into the threads established by Superior Spider-Man and Spider-Verse, Otto Octavius's new adventures add just enough new wrinkles to the tried and tested superheroics that this series will definitely catch your interest. Oct 07, 2018A new status quo for Otto, with some old friends in the mix. But it could become warmed-over Superior Spidey, if they're not careful. Read Full Review

Oct 03, 2018I thought the overall package here was decent. The main story sets up Otto's new status quo effectively, though at this point I'm more interested in his personal troubles than his super-heroics. The backup story setting up Spider-Geddon was lackluster. Read Full Review

Oct 03, 2018For a comic that I was sure I was going to enjoy, I'm walking away wishing I spent the time reading something else. It just misses as far as story and dialogue and the art is pretty average. There's nothing superior at all to it except it setting up the world it will revolve around. For a title that was a sure win it's a hell of a miss. Read Full Review

That was amazing. Otto is now one of the best characters in the MU. And I'm so glad that Superior Spider-Man Vol 2 will have the same creative team.

Great stuff. I missed this guy a lot. We'll see how it works out in the ongoing but Gage did a great job with this one. I enjoyed his way of making me care for Otto and his plight. Mike Hawthorne is a great artist and he definitely is well suited for this dynamic pseudo-spidey story. Splash page after splash page, his detail level is too good! Von Grawbadger and Bellaire were perfect too!

Currently reading Superior Spider-Man and the vibe feels the same which is a plus! Excellent dialogue and can not wait for more. The art was incredible. Can't tell which I liked better, Doc's scenes saving people, scenes in the college, or the scenes with Hyrda! The only downside to this issue was the epilogue. For someone who didn't read the last Spider-verse or the event that took place here, I was lost and wish it had a note saying what story/ issue this is talking about.
