‘Strange Academy' approaches the end of its first ‘semester' as plotlines approach their endgame and the cast of characters grows and becomes even more solid than they already were. This book has really hit it's stride lately and living up to the expectations I had for it from the beginning. Most the characters now feel fleshed out with unique personalities and the books lots of fun while having interesting stories. The art just continues to be amazing and the design for Gaslamp is fantastic.

Love Ramos' art. I know that's a divided opinion but I love it. Calvin has the most intriguing arc so far and to think I was not interested in him to begin with. The dialogue actually sounds like teenagers who all have their own voice. Strange Academy continues to be a recommend on my list.

I really like the book. Everything but the Calvin story works for me. Gas lamp is visually a cool villain if a little to Dr. Facilliar.

Calvin's wish-drug story is progressing with all the realism and subtlety of a 90s after-school special, and I mean that in the least complimentary way possible. It's even tarnishing the other plotline by association; I can't say that the latest Doyle-Emily developments are handled with any greater storytelling skill. The art's still pleasant to look at, with some notably great panels. But some also seem a bit cruise-control-y. The visuals remain the high point, though. It's in plotting and scripting that I'd like to see a *lot* more effort. For example, I'm a huge anti-fan of the most important conversations in the comic being students talking to Dr. Voodoo *between* issues. The usual disclaimer: It's by no means a *bad* book and could be a very good book for a reader younger and less crusty than me. But the ceiling on how much I personally enjoy it keeps descending. more
