Star Wars: The High Republic #3

Overall, Star Wars: The High Republic #3is a terrifying ride that already pays off the nuggets left in the previous two issues. Trennis continues to embody the best qualities we have come to expect from the Jedi Order as she helps others selflessly and fearlessly. Sskeer madness continues to build as his failures compound. More importantly, the Drengir have reared their ugly heads in the comics. Scott is knocking this series out of the park, and I can't wait for the next issue. Read Full Review

This seies is definitely a must-read fo all fans of Star Wars comics. The wider Marvel slate is already looking pretty decent so far and this series still manages to shine above the rest. After a battle on all fronts, the issue ends with the arrival of the other Jedi with a controlled Sskeer siding with the Drengir. The visuals throughout the issue are well done with great Jedi appearances and action. Everything from seeing a Hutt being dissected to seeing force powers and light sabers in action are done well. The plant-like prison is visually dynamic and interesting. That being said it would be nice if the Drengir were a bit more ominous looking and a bit less like extras from Little shop of horror. But the overall look of the issue is fantastic and the writing and art quality is top notch. Read Full Review

The action and intrigue have really heated up in this issue, which will certainly lead readers to want to check out the next one. A big baddie had been revealed, and its using an old ally as a weapon. Its anybodys guess as to where Kreeve and Avar go next, but it is sure to be dangerous and fun. Read Full Review

Overall. I'm probably going to stick with this comic until it concludes. But for time being. I am not being wowed by anything that ‘The High Republic' has to offer. It feels very much like a poor man's version of ‘Knights of the Old Republic'. Quite frankly. I'm getting rather bored of this. Read Full Review

We get some decent movement forward here in some of what's causing trouble in the area but it's not part of the bigger picture just yet as to what's been happening since they found the empty ship that lead them to this world. There are interesting moments throughout and I'm enjoying watching Keeve trying to find her balance as a Jedi now that she's not just a padawan anymore and has to play the part until it just becomes who she is. Scott's script flows pretty well and it balances the various stories smoothly and without any problems, giving each of them enough time. At this point, it's really just Avar Kriss that doesn't feel fleshed out but that's just within the context of this series itself. Read Full Review

The art in this issue is completely versatile to the needs of the event happening in the story. If it needs to fit a scary scene, the characters are depicted in horrifying scenarios that could make the reader wince, if they need to show a jedi being heroic, then you get a great action shot of them coming down and splitting their opponent in two. The first issue left a lot to be desired, while the second issue was a fun read. Our third chapter falls in the middle. It's more safe than boring and tries new things that don't completely stick the landing but are interesting enough to see where it goes next. Read Full Review

In this new edition of Star Wars, The High Republic is filled with tough situations and tougher decisions, some surprising events occur including an introduction to a darker side of the story that is new to this series. Now, to get to the story and my thoughts. Newly crowned Jedi Knight Keeve Trennis finds herself between a rock and a hard place, her Master Sskeer seems to be preoccupied with Terec having a nervous breakdown because he feels what his twin brother is suffering through. Knowing this problem Keeve Trennis decides to go out with a local named Bartol, as they make their way through the crops Keeve comes across a pit and has no idea what it is and what or who lives inside such a dangerous-looking place, shortly after Keeve follow s Bartol through the pit she feels a strong presence of the dark side, not knowing where it is coming from, Towards the end of this pit Keeve found an unknown plant as she looks closely she finds that Bartol's friend is unresponsive and Ceret is also the same, he is tangled in this plant. Soon after getting Ceret free she hears a sound and for the first time in this series, the "Drengir" makes its first appearance, dangerous enough that it seems that it has the potential to capture as it did Ceret and Bartol's friend. Keeve fights back as long as she can against such a challenge, saving Ceret, Bartol, and Keeve, Marshall Kriss appears and with one swipe of her lightsaber, she cut the Dregir clean in half. As Ceret and Terec are treated, Terec seemed to have been mind-controlled by this plant and Ceret the same while he was with Master Sskeer. Not knowing, Master SSkeer seemed to be controlled by this plant that now they realize it holds a strong dark side presence and turns the victim temporarily to the dark side, Sskeer is trapped. The Drengir is alive and shows no sign of stopping, What's going to happen to Sskeer after being exposed to this plant, or monster to be more exact. Keeve, Bartol, Ceret, and the rest of the crew are in a life or death situation, what will happen. To add, Cavan Scott and Ario Anindito are making a Star Wars Masterpiece, I hope that they can be consistent with the story, it is truly amazing to me. more

They didn’t know what they were in store for as upon arrival at the signal in question, they found a  slain Hutt who was transporting the grain used to make bacta. To make matters worse, they believe that the Hutt and crew were attacked by the dreaded Nihil. Now they have arrived on a planet stricken by a mysterious blight. One Jedi is missing and another is driven insane. Young Keeve Trennis must figure out the mystery on this planet, protect an innocent life and face a shocking betrayal from within the Jedi order. That’s a lot to take on for a newly appointed Jedi Knight. Issue number three takes Star Wars into a murder mystery type of story. We also learn more about what’s been making Sskeer act out of sorts and what took Ceret. Keeve needs to mature and grow on the fly as a newly appointed Jedi Knight. I look forward to watching her grow as a Jedi. The Dark Side is creeping its way into the High Republic era. High Republic continues to introduce more of the new villains of this era. This was yet another solid addition to this new era. However, I’m not sure I want to see Keeve fight the threat of a monster. I enjoy the Star Wars battling some form of Empire trying for universal domination. I guess I’m just waiting for a new Sith Lord? Overall, this was a good read complemented with great artwork. This issue sucked. I find it strange that Bartol would just jump into a giant and dangerous sinkhole because of his trust that Keeve would save him, someone who he had literally just met. As if that were not dangerous enough lets just hand this kid, who was dumb enough to impulsively jump down a sinkhole, a drawn lightsaber! "...Sure, I do. I cant keep it floating up there all day, can I?" Well how about you put it in its holster, you know, like a normal jedi. Also I dont get why Keeve was still asking for help from Ceret after he CLEARLY showed that he had been possessed by these bird plant things. Sad issue but I still look forward to the series!
