Runaways #23

Perhaps I'm a sucker for touching queer moments, but I'd have to say that Nico and Karolina stole the show for me. Nico clapping back at Gert for taking offense to her advice about what to do with Victor was God-tier shade. Their progression from discussing Karolina's extra-curricular activities, to their joint decision to become one in this venture, was beautiful and makes me so excited to devour the next issue. Runaways #23 provided some outstanding jokes and funny shots you take at close friends and family. Despite the heavy nature of some conversations between our Runaways team, leveling things out with genuine comedy has been a constant for Rainbow Rowell. If the next issue's cover image is any indication, I'm very excited to see what Andres Genolet has in store for us. Read Full Review

Runaways #23 is definitely one of the stronger issues of this run. It goes a long way to have chapters like this where these characters can pour their hearts to one another without leaning too hard into what tends to be cliche for their age. Read Full Review

This issue nails the feeling that this team really is a family with all their own struggles but common goals. It is especially nice to see Victor getting the spotlight here and the maturity displayed in all the character interactions is refreshing. Read Full Review

The art is enjoyable… but really the book feels stale and this issue just proves it. Nothing is happening and the characters aren't doing anything. The run started out good but mainly because they had a common goal. Typically, they have a five-issue story arc so this would be the last issue in the story arc. However, I'm hoping we have one more issue left. The only good I can see from this issue is the set up for a Karolina and Nico comic as well as a spin-off for two more of the characters. Molly's character hasn't done much, so she and Gib are basically being wasted. I would not recommend this issue. Read Full Review

It's a fast read and, for once, I wouldn't chalk the speed up entirely to the author's butter-smooth dialogue. This might be a little content-light. Still looks great, though, and it yanks hard at the heartstrings.

Gert is in danger of becoming whiny and annoying, but the other characters are progressing in interesting directions.
