Rowell and Anka really have a grasp on how to make this group shine, and tell a narrative with quite a lot of twists and turns (like this issue's major cliffhanger) in the process. Read Full Review

I wish there was more that we could have gotten out of Runaways #17, but it did get us where we needed to be for this final confrontation. It all comes down to what these kids are willing to do in order to save the world and their lives. From the look of the next issue, what they do might be groundbreaking. Read Full Review

In the end of it all, everyone's true character is revealed and the team is left in another painful predicament, thanks to you-know-who. Rainbow Rowell certainly knows how to finesse the comic book cliffhanger because I find myself itching for the next Runaways issue to drop every time I finish the one in my hands. Check back in February to see how the gang makes it out of this one alive. Read Full Review

Man, this series is really great and I never expected it. The characters are all written extremely well and I really can't wait to see where this all leads. I don't know how this series is doing sales wise but I hope it lasts for a long time because it never overstays its welcome and it's clear that the creators really care about the story they're telling.

The much-anticipated confrontation between the Runaways and the Gibborim explodes in messy furball of quickly-shifting allegiances. It's eminently satisfying even with a big ole cliffhanger instead of a resolution. This issue dials back the character work a bit to concentrate on plot, and it works well. There are fascinating decisions and consequences throughout, and I couldn't be more excited to press on and find out how it all resolves.
