Rogue & Gambit #1

This book brings what we have grown to love about the X-books. Action, drama and comedy in a uniquely X-Men way. Kelly Thompson does an incredible job crafting a story I just can't wait to read more of. This being her first x-title I want even after only one issue Marvel to give her an ongoing series. She is perfect for the X-Men and I hope we get to see a lot more of her. Buy this book, trust me it's so worth it. Read Full Review

Rogue & Gambit #1 is a great first issue for this mini, giving us just enough of a hint of what's to come while also offering up what we really want " Rogue and Gambit, trading barbs and enjoying every minute of it. The scenes between these two crackle, but there's just enough underlying melancholy to remind us of how it's all fallen apart in past. With this issue ending on quite the cliffhanger, it will be interesting to see where the series goes. If the second issue keeps up the momentum from this one, fans of either or both characters will be chomping at the bit to see how the pair works their way out of the situations theyre put in. Rogue & Gambit #1 begins in spectacular fashion. Thompson, Prez, and D'Armata are bringing their A-game to a comic that will undoubtedly mean a lot to some very passionate fans. Remember how in Community different members of the cast had their own secret handshakes like Troy and Abed? That's how Kelly Thompson writes not only Rogue and Gambit but every X-Man making a cameo and it's brilliant. Rogue and Gambit is just what the X-Men needed to get people talking again. In the end, and this feels weird, I'm going to recommend buying a Marvel comic. Now this is a short series (only five issues) so the buy in for a full story won't be that bad. Maybe it's just nostalgia for the X-Men of my youth, or maybe it's genuinely a good story: either way we kinda hope Gambit and Rogue will work it out... just as long as none of us have to go on a double date with them. Rogue and Gambit are on a mission at a getaway paradise that might lead to them rekindling their relationship. I loved Rogue, thought Gambit was okay, (That's my personal bias) and the visuals were good. Barely any physical conflict in this issue, so I'm hoping for some more next issue. The art is awesome! Great detail, bold, and bright! Everything I love in an X-Men comic. I actually prefer the variants to the cover. Standing as a neat mixture of Thompson's Hawkeye run and the FXX comedy You're The Worst, Rogue & Gambit #1 is exactly the kind of back-to-basics shake up these characters sorely needed. Kelly Thompson delivered a comic that was fun from beginning to end with Rogue & Gambit #1. As soon as you open the comic Thompson showed her clear understanding of Rogue and Gambit's history together. She then took that history to craft a comic that was easy to see where Rogue and Gambit were coming from whenever they shared screen time together. Adding in some classic members of the X-Men added to the history of the two leading characters and pushed the story forward. If you are an X-Men fan this is one comic that should be on your radar to purchase the next time you're at your LCS, if it wasn't already. Read Full Review

Very fun first issue, gets the characters perfectly and feels the right amount of old and the right amount of new. I'm onboard with those asking for Thompson to get an X title after this.

Just got the first issue and I totally enjoyed it. Artwork is great and the writer really captures the snarky chemistry we have grown to love between the two. The chemistry and banter probably is the greatest part of the story so far with a classic "man pursuing a woman" vibe to it. Definitely looking to see where it goes.

Rogue writhes and Gambit smirks as they start a recon mission that forces them to impersonate a couple with relationship troubles. Kelly Thompson's script is impressive. It delivers sass and fun, but it also works hard to avoid the pitfalls of making the premise look contrived or making Remy look like a stalker-y torch-bearer. Ms. Thompson's continued performance on these tightropes will be interesting to watch as the series progresses. Pere Pérez's art stands in contrast to the words. It's effortlessly gorgeous (there're a few copy-paste shenanigans going on, but they're hard to spot), but also generic. Very high-quality superhero art … suitable for use in any superhero story. It does not require careful interrogation the way the sc ript does - and therefore it's far easier to forget. more

I take it because I read a good review about it. But I didn't know what I have in mind. That all I despite about this couple. Seriously why rogue is attracted to this jerk. A try really too hard to sleep with her. If I was in the mansion & they have HR department I call them right away. And Kitty force Rogue to a couple mission with him. That's sick me. In a time with affair like the Westein one, I sense this like a abuse of rogue. Seriously she as to be under some Stockholm syndrome to fall for this creep. Do she forgotten he was a Marauder & betray her & the X-men ? Nice exemple for young man ... Oh try harder to seducing her because in fact she is under your spell but say now because she have to even she want only something ... That's not charming at all. It's creepy, perverted & totally shift ! Cover - I don't like it, rogue is poorly draw & this as not link to what I read inside 0/2 Writing - I like the mystery about what happen on the island, and the battle with the sentinel (But not Gambit meddling) 1/3 Arts - Not good but not bad. That do the job. 2/3 Feeling - I will not hurting myself like that again. 0/2 more
