Iron Man 2020 #5

Iron Man 2020 #5 is fantastic, wrapping up much of the crossover. The return of Tony Stark is welcome and both Slott and Gage excel at writing both the billionaire and his brother Arno. The battle is engaging, and with less dialogue, the narrative moves easier than it may have done in the issues preceding them. Woods is a great partner in the book; his line art and colors are sublime. With one more issue to go, it is clear that the Iron Man 2020 event will not conclude in a quiet fashion. Read Full Review

JUST ONE MORE ISSUE LEFT THANK YOU JESUS! Because Dan Slott seems like he just wanted to come on to this series to redesign characters, like putting lipstick on a pig. Some a little, some a lot, some unnoticeably, but he is not giving us a good story. Both of the volumes of Iron Man he has written have been the equivalent of a snake eating its own tail. Next thing we know the armor its self is going to have its own crisis of identity and begin sounding like a high football player at a frat party asking himself out loud in a faux philosophical tone, "Whoa Man! Am I even real"I mean man"I know I'm here but am I really real? You know what I mean Man." The art is nice except whenever we see anything that resembles an Iron Man. Read Full Review

It's unfortunate that an issue as well drawn as this one is set on the task of making poor ideas intelligible; it's clearly time for Iron Man to find a new, coherent direction. Read Full Review

Probably one of the better issues but its still just weird at some parts but some are good. Overall im just ready for it to be over

Tony reconstitutes himself with some fancy new holographic armor and takes the fight to his brother. Fantastic art elevates a rather by-the-numbers story.

I'm so disenchanted by this. There's stuff here that I like. I like Tony Stark actually being himself again, although I think there was real potential in his downfall at the end of his solo series that was never given its time to shine. I like the cat, honestly. It's fun. I like that Arno wasn't just a crazy nutjob. I like the art. I like the design of the new suit. But there's so much I don't like here. The dialogue gets so bad that I was genuinely curious as to whether Dan Slott was trying to ape or mimic older comics. That whole bit about "positioning your last attack..." is straight out of a 60s comic. In fact, most of Arno's dialogue is. I don't like the concept behind the new suit. It doesn't make any goddamn sense. I don't like Sunse t Bain and her bullshit. What is that? Set up for a story that probably won't come. We already know what happens next with Iron Man, and that seems much more enjoyable to me. I wish this event got the Empyre treatment instead of continuing with its monthly schedule as though we aren't supposed to be months behind it at this point. more
