Black Nerd Problems - William Evans
Mar 22, 2017Not only is Invincible Iron Man a good book that is getting better, but Riri put on some big hero boots this week and showed a part of her personality we hadn't seen yet with satisfying results. Combine that with the heart this issue showed with Riri's mom and the balance she faces as the parent of a teenage superhero, and this book just about claimed the week. Read Full Review

Weird Science - Dan Mayhoff
Mar 27, 2017While some of the flaws that exist in the book are still glaringly obvious, this issue raised the bar for this entire series and for that I have to give it props. We are slowly but surely getting to know this new character more and we got some really fun and exciting action scenes. The art is fantastic but that has been obvious this entire run but honestly, I think the book is finally where it should have been at issue #1. We finally have an understanding of who Riri Williams is (a small understanding but a understanding nonetheless) and we have a compelling storyline that I'm looking forward to see it develop. I love Riri's mom's monologue. It's true what she says and I feel bad for her.I really love the ending of this book and I love how Riri has the guts to call out people who need to be called out and give props where props are due. Bendis is doing magic here and I hope he doesn't lose it, cuz let's be honest he kind of does towards the end of things. I just can't wait for more.

starts out with Riri's mom looking for her... talking to the equipment in her workroom... asking of the Tony Start AI is listening.. she's having the monologue about wanting to be a good mom.. worried for Riri.. etc... is good! then we cut to the fight... Tomoe is an Inhuman with the power to control technology with her mind... she takes the new armor that Riri/Tony sent... but it explodes, not only breaking all the armor she had but also short circuiting the ninjas... Pepper tells Riri to run.. because.. Tomo comes out of the wreckage.. with a sword... she faces off with Riri, and Pepper bangs her in the head with one of the armor fists that still works :) then SHIELD shows up to clean up... they try to recruit Riri but she t more

Good issue, but I didn't like it as much as the previous issues. First, the selfie cover reminds me of the Oscar Awards selfie, and please, Marvel, don't do that. I missed projection-Tony Stark, and this Inhuman villain was as bland and generic as every other Nuhuman...Nu-Inhuman...whatever. It still has knock out art and I thought the scene in the first half of the book with Riri's mom was well done.

Riri beats the Techno Golem, her mom is being sweet, AI Tony is being weird. It's satisfying to close the Techno Golem story and Stefano Caselli's art is especially great. By the standards of the title, this is a strong comic, but I contend that those standards have been bashed down too low. Take the Techno Golem story that's run from #3 to #5. I think *any* 20th-century comics writer would consider this to be a one-comic story: Protagonist teams up with a guest star to defeat a villain while the supporting cast runs a few soap opera scenes. Brian Michael Bendis has turned that one comic into three and that's not okay.
