The comic has given a new spin on one of Marvel Comics' oldest characters. Hopefully we won't see that work go to waste (or see him marginalized as Magneto often has during his less villainous turns). I don't know what's in store for Doom going forward, but this comic shows there's plenty of potential for the character given the right direction and creative team. Worth a look. Read Full Review

Doom was super entertaining as a antihero instead of the usual antivillain he is. Was not a huge fan of Maker or Mephisto stuff, and ultimately Victor is bound to return to villainy because of comic status quo, but Doom is one of the most complex characters in Marvel, and I hope more writers would take advantage of it instead of having him just be mad

Hmm this issue was bit bizarre and definitely not the epic conclusion I was expecting to this awesome series. But it have some decent moments here and there and I did love seeing Doom and Strange working together. I'm definitely going to miss the great artwork by Alex Maleev it was always consistent and sooo unique. It's a shame that this was only 12 issues because it's easily among Marvel's best comics right now. All in all this was a cool little experiment and Victor's journey to redemption was one heck of a ride!

Definitely not the wild ending I was expecting or anywhere near an ending worth all the issues and build up. To say this issue fell flat is an understatement. The only reason I am still giving it a decent grade is the art. That monologue by Mephisto was just cringey at some points and while the ending does leave an interesting revelation it just does not have the impact I think it was intending. Overall, I am pretty disappointed with this series as all the good build left me with this.

Mephisto's painfully long monologue almost took me out. He did not sound like himself at all, but I guess that's Bendis dialogue for ya. And was he talking to me...? Didn't realize he was a 4th wall breaker. So that's fun. This series was pretty underwhelming. I guess I'm glad I read it, but I likely won't be revisiting it in the future.

Overall, I was pretty disappointed in how Bendis chose to end this series. We really get no resolution with Dr. Doom's motives behind his turn to hero, and the reveal of Mephisto being the actual villain of the entire run, was just odd. It came out of left field, and Bendis used the first 3 pages of the issue to have Mephisto break the 4th wall, turn towards the audience, and describe through long exposition why he wanted to mess with Doom. I really enjoyed issues 1-10. But with the final 2, I can't say I'd even pick up the full trade for this.

Bendis fails badly in the lacklustre #12 issue that has been, until now, a deeply fascinating title. The story that gained momentum over the first near-dozen issues crumbles at the end, with a rip-off quick ending that wraps up the necessary plot lines in a cheap and unsatisfying "Mephisto did it all!" Ending. The breaking of the 4th wall by Mephisto was beyond belief dumb. An interesting series that shits the bed at the end.

Brian Michael Bendis loses big on a double bet: that A) we'll be satisfied with an "it was Mephisto all along" ending instead of the Maker fight we wanted and that B) *four pages* of Mephisto-as-Zack-on-Saved-By-The-Bell soliloquy is the best way to explain everything. Possibly the most blatant copout ending in the modern Marvel era. Character relationships are handled decently and Alex Maleev's magic art is still superb. Rating this gets a little tricky because everything outside the Mephisto soliloquy suggests an above-average comic. But I have a rather fundamental rule: 6/10 comics have to be satisfying, and "satisfying" is simply not an adjective I can attach to any book that resolves a major plot thread in such a lazy and contemptuous way. more
