Fantastic Four #9 is a great issue for many reasons. It's a good jumping on point for new readers as this is the start to a new story arc. It keeps new readers up to speed so they don't need to ask what's going on and who certain characters are. If you haven't been reading Fantastic Four, I highly suggest you read this issue. This is probably my favorite issue of James Robinson's Fantastic Four run so far. And not for any one, particular reason. The Bottom Line: It's a new arc for this ongoing storyline, one that is putting every character into his/her own dark place. This is balanced by a “win” for the kids of the future foundation, and a very surprising return of a forgotten character. The art proves capable but somewhat limited in truly emoting this dark new place, but the overall momentum of story continues to pique interest. Read Full Review

Despite Laming's art not being quite on par, this is only his first issue in the series and although I do stand by what I said about his work, there wasn't much action in this issue for him to really be able to let loose with the scenes. Perhaps in the future Laming will get his time to shine with some very exciting and intense action scenes and we'll all get to see what he can really do. Robinson, however, did a spectacular job this issue with his expertise in convey emotions and adding in slight hints as to what the future will hold for the Fantastic Four and why everything has been happening to them. I look forward to the next issue and I'm sure all of you out there do too! Read Full Review
