I mean, its not that this lacks any action. I mean there wasn't alot of action in #1 too. Its that it had a good catch but dropped the ball. Alot of the writing you can simply shorten or take out all together, and it still moves rather well. Eh, I guess it was a little anti-climatic.

Comic Watch - J.A. Fludd
Jul 24, 2020With a crackling script and art that moves everything along, the second issue of Empyre provides twists and complications and good action. This part of the story centers primarily on The Avengers, who have ample opportunity to show why theyre called Earths Mightiest Heroes. The nod to a bit of Fantastic Four history is also welcome. Our heroes seem to have the situation in space mostly in handbut plenty of trouble still awaits them back on Earth! Read Full Review

AIPT - David Brooke
Jul 21, 2020Empyre is turning out to be an epic space saga with the complexities of a novel, delivered in the bright glory of the comic book format. It also has deep roots in Marvel's history that longtime readers will respect. Empyre is shaping up to be a book that lives up to Roy Thomas and Neal Adams' Kree/Skrull War. Read Full Review

Graphic Policy - Brett
Jul 21, 2020Empyre #2 is much improved over the first. It features intelligent aftermath from the attack and also a good explanation of the Cotati's planning of it all. The issue is still a lot of set up and organizing as the forces of good come together but it feels like it's a more focused narrative that avoids moments we've seen over and over. Read Full Review

Comics: The Gathering - Charles Martin
Jul 22, 2020Empyre #2 wraps up the introduction to the event and buries the last hints of hero-vs-hero conflict. As far as I'm concerned, that's entirely a good thing. With the battle lines drawn along more rational and less contrived lines, readers are free to stop and smell the death blossoms (i.e. quality storytelling), as it were. Read Full Review

Chuck's Comic Of The Day - Chuck
Jul 25, 2020The series features lots of characters, lots of opportunities for double-crosses and mayhem aplenty. But it would be more fun if the story actually, I don't know, made sense? As it is, it just feels like the monster of the week. Still firmly on the fence here. Read Full Review

Jul 22, 2020Slott's script is technically sound, but several marvelous images can't save this issue from its boring flashbacks. Read Full Review

Newsarama - Justin Partridge
Jul 21, 2020But even with the jolt of cosmic psychedelia, Empyre #2 loses pace in its sophomore installment. Though handsomely drawn and colored, the lack of the pep in Al Ewing's step leaves the event stumbling right off the starting line. Read Full Review

Jul 25, 2020Not a whole lot happens to justify the very existence of this Big Event comic. Great art and solid writing, for sure, but the plot and characters leave a lot to be desired. Read Full Review

Weird Science Marvel Comics - Jim Werner
Jul 21, 2020I went into this issue looking for AL Ewing and Dan Slott to convince me to buy the 30+ issues of this Empyre Event, but after Empyre #2, they now will have to convince me not to drop this whole thing outright. The story is not exciting, and even the big moments fall flat since the pacing makes it all a slog to get through. It's like watching grass grow, and that isn't thrilling anywhere, not even on the moon! Read Full Review
