But Why Tho? - Derrick Pittman

Empyre: X-Men #2 is a wild ride and it doesn't stop. It's a perfect storm of action, mystery, and humor. The art and coloring are so good that it looks like it could pop right off of the page. This side story is great for those that have not picked up the main storyline. This will definitely whet your appetite, leaving you wanting more. Read Full Review

If youve been dying for action, Magiks aggression, and the Golden Girls of botany, this issue is right up your alley. Readers will love this issue and I highly recommend picking this series up. Its a must-read for any X-fan and frankly, is the best issue of EMPYRE Ive read so far AND its a tie-in! Read Full Review

The disposable nature of this tie-in seems to have given the various creative teams the freedom to go hog wild with characters, actions and cool moments. I'm loving it. Read Full Review

Honestly I realize I'm probably going overboard with this rating, but the art by Werneck and Woodard is astonishingly good, and the story is so entertainingly bonkers, and Duggan writes the kind of clever dialogue that I eat right up.

Pretty great. A tie-in that's more entertaining than the main event, now I've seen everything. Bravo X-writers. This book is just fun, it's a batshit crazy concept that the writers turn into something that works with great humor and great art. The old ladies are turning out to be hilarious characters, even though most thought their introduction was a joke in the early X-Men issue from Hickman. Honestly this is one of the big reasons I'm still reading this event

I liked this more than issue one, something I wasn't expecting given the new writing team. But yeah, things flowed better and quicker, and it was a ton of fun.

It's a good issue although the addition of Hordeculture wasn't to my liking. The strife between the Genosha mutant zombies and The Cotati was well done. Magik is amazing in this issue.

I'm liking Hordeculture more here than from their first appearance. The writers are clearly just having a fun time with this nonsense.

This could have been so much better but there are storytelling glitches and it's far denser an issue than it needs to be. The last issue felt like a regular issue of Hickman's X-Men with some cute elements thrown in to subvert it, but this issue is by the numbers B-list Marvel. Written by committee that's not surprising, as good as Duggan, Percy and Williams can be, but this is a case of moving characters around first and trying to use dialogue to make the story happen. Despite artist Lucas Werneck's best efforts there are moments of half decent comedy, but neither the plants, zombies nor Hordeculture elements have adequate payoffs. And a page or three of his art seems completely unfinished, which adds to the problems. It's an unremarkable more

Proof that "salty old broad" dialogue is, like many writing tasks, harder than it looks. And what's with the conscious decision to draw everybody in their pre-DoX costumes?

This was all over the place. Even though I read the last issue, I feel like I am lost a little bit. Everything is kind of unorganized, the writing is trying to be modern and quirky, which is common during fights scenes, but its not clicking at all. Jumbled with a walls of text, yeah it stagnates very easily. Our grandmas, don't know much about them, and they don't really add anything to the story. I knew this was going to be wacky with the whole PvZ theme, but now its entering the unappealing ridiculous area. Its just not as interesting as I thought it would be.I liked the art though.
