Unfortunately the first issue of Venomverse missed the mark for me although I did enjoy Roland Boschi's art. Edge of Venomverse is a five issue series, followed by another five issue series called simply Venomverse that I assume will team all these characters up, with a one-shot thrown in between the two series. That's quite the investment for an event that so far, hasn't hooked me. I'm hoping later issues will turn my excitement around. Read Full Review

Edge of Venomverse #1 works fine as a sort of short, condensed take on the origin of X-23 and her first meeting with the NYX cast. It's a story that's well-suited to Ramon Bachs' murky, brooding art style. But it's not one that makes particularly clever use of the Venom element. It's a rather dull comic, and it's one-dimensional in the sense that it does what the cover promises and delivers X-23 as Venom, but as far as events go, it really doesn't provide much else for a reader. Many of shortcomings of Edge of the Venomverse #1 could be overlooked if there was a hook for what comes next. Unfortunately, while the final moments tease Laura's first steps in a larger collection of worlds, there's no real incentive or threat to keep us interested. Where Spider-Verse kicked off with Morlun declaring that all spiders will die, there is no equivalent menace to the Multiverse present here. If the next few issues are to be a random series of symbiote encounters so be it, but the core story that starts in September may be of more lasting interest. Read Full Review

Concept better than execution, and very rushed. Most of the interesting ideas are barely touched on, and the book ends abruptly.

X-23 + Venom + homeless kiddies = lots of hard-knock street life. There's a few great twists in Matthew Rosenberg's script that make this an exciting story. It ends with a wonderful surprise cliffhanger, too. However, Roland Boschi's art is letting the reader down. It starts at a "just barely acceptable" level and slides into actual "I can't tell what's going on" illegibility by the end.

What a piece of garbage this is. The cover is pretty though. Too bad the art inside doesn't match it. Awful art, awful writing, symbiotie poorly used/used wrong/inconsistently used. Don't buy this trash.
