Beyond The Panel - Jideobi Odunze
Mar 04, 2020This first story arc is going with momentum and hitting all the right notes. There's nothing about this situation that doesn't get the wheels in your brain turning because they want to believe it's one person, when it could be something else entirely. Dr. Strange " Surgeon Supreme #4 accomplished that while also continuing to strike a perfect balance between both halves of Stephen's life that he is fighting to keep from interfering with the other. Prelude: Dr. Strange has had very little in the way of consistency so far. Let's see how it goes here. The Good: I really love the surgeon side to this. Walker's art was good. Dr. Druid and his backstory was cool. The Bad: Nothing. Conclusion: Another great issue of Dr. Strange. If only it could be like this all the time.

Great classic feel. I could read this in 1987 or 2027 and like it just as much. Clean and detailed art by Walker/Tartaglia/Fabela makes it very enjoyable.

Stephen triggers a magical booby trap and has to rely on someone else to pull his nuts out of the fire, good stuff.

Direct attacks from an unknown antagonist threaten to smash the wall Strange is trying to maintain between his sorcery and his surgery. Only the timely intervention of Dr. Druid saves him from getting killed and taking the whole hospital with him. The individual bits of the story are familiar, but they're arranged with great skill and great pacing, and the overall arc offers compelling mysteries.
