Doctor Strange #383

Stephen Strange has to deal with the unfairness of his predicament. Why did the Vishanti make him do battle with the other mystics if they already knew they were going to replace him? This only adds insult to injury. Is there a motivation to their decision? Are they just upset with Strange for some unknown reason that they aren't sharing? And why give the title to someone who shows no interest in obtaining it? So many questions are raised with this issue. One of the best Dr. Strange story arcs in a long time. Read Full Review

Doctor Strange #383 is a compelling and interesting continuation to the Loki: Sorcerer Supreme story. It takes some interesting turns, and we get to see Stephen Strange take some ever-more irresponsible risks. It is a great read with solid artwork, and I definitely recommend it. Give it a read. The image of Strange giving up the body of Bats as an offering to the World Tree is tragic and somehow apt given it was Loki who caused the death in the first place. Strange may well have taken the bull by the horns here as he grapples with magic he has barely reckoned with and I wonder if the solution is worse than the problem. The rest of the issue involves Stephen taking a big risk and gaining some serious power. There will definitely be a showdown between Stephen and Loki very soon and it will definitely be exciting. Also worth mentioning is the fact that Bats gets to be a good boy one more time. Overall, the creative team keeps this a high quality title. The writing has so much perfect mix of suspense, drama and humor mixed with Niko Henrichon's flashback scenes and Gabriel Walta's moody yet very emotional art and Jordie Bellaire's colors make this book very enjoyable.

I want a one shot of what happens at the beginning of this issue. This issue is great Cates' run on Strange has the potential to go down as on if the best runs on Strange. I'm Liking this much more than Aaron's run.

This is one of my favorite clever covers of the year. The chapter shows Stephen's plan begin to play out as he infiltrates Asgardia in search of the World Tree. There is some great art in both the flashbacks and the main story. While the style changes I think the colors work well to not be distracting. The mentioned flashback shows just how Stephen lost his place as the Sorcerer Supreme to Loki, so the question was not left lingering to long as often happens. There are a lot of fun character moments, but the favorite of mine has to be Wong. He of course left his life with the Sorcerer Supreme behind so acts a little perturbed to be drawn back in. This has become an interesting arc for Stephen Strange and worth reading.

This book is awesome. I started reading Doctor Strange when legacy started. It has not let me down. Art is awesome and the story is very intriguing.

Strange and is dumbest plan ever ... And for what ... Been jealous. Ok at first it was (Again) a issue without action. But damn when action come, that hit hard. The only issue is to rembering me about Siege. It's logic for this moment and I understand perfectly. But, very bad idea ... That part of the story seem less good instantaneously. Cover - Like it a lot & in relation to a part of my reading. He even succeed to not spoil it. 2/2 Writing - Good ... But please let Siege die forgotten. 2.5/3 Arts - Still the same kind of art I'm not used but like for have a fantastic original reading. But the Battle part was less good. 2/3 Feeling - Ok I'm hook now 2/2

Doctor Strange has a Baldrickian cunning plan to regain his power and humiliate Loki. Step one involves getting the Sentry to help him commit some medium-strength magic burglary in Asgard. The Baldrick-ness of Stephen's plan comes through in both its absurdity and its hubris. We get a flashback explaining just how he lost his position to Loki. Even though the Vishanti said, quite explicitly, "you need taking down a peg or two, proud man," Stephen is rattling hell-for-leather down a path practically guaranteed to earn him an ironic comeuppance. The tone of Donny Cates's script becomes a little inconsistent and the visuals are weakened here by a Niko Henrichon flashback that doesn't quite rise to Gabriel Hernandez Walta's visual standards. Th ere's still a core of sincerity and heartbreak - wrapped around Bats, of course - that holds this issue at "great" or "near great" even if it's a bit weaker than the last two. more

Cates is a talented writer, but the beginning of the run is a little off. The whole run of Jason Aaron was built on a powerless Dr. Strange, so it’s boring to continue that even if this story is about addressing that issue. Too much Asgard, too much Loki, too much Sentry (yikes!). Walta’s art is good, but his Doctor Strange looks bizarre.
