But Why Tho? - William Tucker
Mar 09, 2022Devils Reign: Superior Four #3 is the last part of a very conflicting comic. There is a good story here, as well as an excellent character study through an inventive method. And the art has been fantastic in all three issues. However, The dialogue and the script are far too messy and bloated to really fall in love with. The large speeches from every character weigh the issue down and its very hard to really focus on what is being said. And to only have one page of three issues that actually ties it into the main book shows how adrift it is from anything relevant. Read Full Review

Most of this worked, however it was rather clumsy. This didn't need to be a miniseries. Not at all.

I am normally a fan of spectacle. When things are non sensical, outrageous and ridiculous I usually find the charm and have a good time. This was almost that, i will say the art is rather good in this issue. However the dialogue is bloated and empty. There is no meat to this story outside of "prime" Otto, whos depiction I enjoyed. As a whole, No meat, just a bag of bones clanging down the stairs making noise.

I think there's a workable conclusion buried under all that pretentious language. Otto learns a good lesson. I like the art. The flow from panel to panel is stiff, but many of the individual panels are great. I contend that the overblown vocabulary isn't just subjectively bad; I think it has a negative impact on the story. It makes it less clear. And part of what it's concealing is weak logic; there are a couple of key decisions by Otto-616 and the Supreme Ock that don't stand up to the slightest bit of scrutiny.
