Deadpool / Wolverine #8

It feels as if we're in the calm before the storm. Wolverine is still rebooting, and the Merc with a Mouth is being silenced. A mind-controlled Wolvie and a silent Deadpool are, fortunately, never permanent (I hope). As this run continues, the story gets bigger, and the stakes get higher. Deadpool/Wolverine is one of those comics that you just can't wait for the next issue to drop. That last page got me even more hyped for what's to come. Read Full Review

Plot Apocalypse/Stryfe shows Wolverine his plan, which is to destroy the planet and wait centuries for it to regenerate while they are in suspended animation chambers. Once the planet is fully rebooted, he will use the archive containing the DNA of all the mutants that belonged to Nick Fury and clone them to populate the planet with the X-Men. The way to begin this cleansing of the planet is by using the Legacy Virus 2.0, which turns everyone into zombies and controls them with Apocalypse's helmet and Stryfe's mutant powers. Wolverine witnesses the introduction of the mutant Apocalypse uses to create the Legacy Virus 2.0. He is called Legacy and has him trapped. Wolverine is still controlled by Apocalypse/Stryfe, but his healing powers are slowly freeing him from the virus, so his mind is sane but his body is not. Talyn, the leader of O*N*E, gets her scientists to hack the Legacy 2.0 virus and has Deadpool and Maverick under her mind control. Her plan is to use mutants to stop mutants. She is cruel, as she demonstrates by testing this mind-control device. Blinded by power, she wants to form an army and refuses to hear any help from any team of mutants. Talyn wants to attack Apocalypse/Stryfe's pyramid/ship to retrieve the file with the DNA of all mutants, but she is attacked by Apocalypse's dragon/zombie. She escapes with the help of Maverick and Deadpool, her puppets. Wolverine manages to break free from Apocalypse/Stryfe's control and attacks him, but Apocalypse/Stryfe's psychic power throws him into the dragon/zombie's jaws. They merge, and Wolverine is now a giant, a monster filled with the Legacy 2.0 virus. This story continues with the perfect balance of suspense and action, where Apocalypse/Stryfe pursues a flawless plan for global domination. Art It's mesmerizing, full of details, textures, and classic poses of these characters, yet updated with their personal touch. The fight sequences are bloody and dizzying. Summary Apocalypse/Stryfe reveals his plan to destroy the planet while Talyn also unleashes the Legacy Virus 2.0, and Wolverine suffers the fatal consequences of this virus. Deadpool is so much better with Ben Percy writing him. This has been a good series, I'm enjoying it.
