Captain Marvel, with Kelly Thompson as writer is, by far, the most consistent Marvel put out. The quality of writing is excellent, with Thompson giving us a Carol that we can love, no mean feat given how the character has been used in the past. Read Full Review

Powered by excellent artwork from Sergio Davila, Captain Marvel #48 is the best chapter in the "Revenge of the Brood storyline. The major character moments are some of the biggest in Kelly Thompson's run. All of this comes together for a strong penultimate chapter that leaves you looking forward to how the storyline will end. Not a big fan of Davila's art. The story has good bits, although I have to admit it is feeling kind of redundant, but it is still fun.

Well, there's nothing like a gratuitous fatality to ratchet up the stakes in a climactic battle, huh? Glib snark aside, the fatality is quite effective. So is Carol's torment; without going into lurid details, the words and especially the art sell the hell out of her trauma. The script is structured well throughout, maintaining a relentless pace and building more and more tension. The dialogue remains real, though there's little room for humor. The art's pretty dang spectacular and not just in Carol's head. The action scenes are dynamic and detailed, and the characters are a lot more expressive than in previous issues. This story had my tentative interest before, but at this point I'm fully engaged.

Not sure if I read the same issue that the critics did, but there are so many missteps here. There are some good elements too, but definitely more of one than the other. While in the middle of a battle for their lives, they are cracking jokes and bantering. I can see this from Siper-man, but that's not the personality of these characters. At one point one female character even tells the others to fight more and talk less. Rogue and Hazmat are relaxing to get their energy back - What? If my friends were fighting for their lives, I don't care how wounded I am, I'm in that battle. Gambit at least does something here, but he increases kinetic energy to the point of explosion and he pumps this energy into Binary. Not sure why she didn't explode more
