THE HAMMER OR THE NAIL?

Aug 17, 2022While I can't say this comic has transformed me into a Captain Marvel stan, I really enjoyed when Kelly Thompson is bringing to the superhero. With stellar art by lvaro Lpez and Juan Frigeri, this is certainly a comic run to pay attention to. Read Full Review

Aug 17, 2022While messing with magic has rarely gone Carol's way, it has led to some wonderful storytelling and discovery of what makes Captain Marvel so great to begin with, and thankfully it's not over yet. Read Full Review

Comic Book Revolution - Kevin Lainez
Aug 19, 2022When the focus is on Carol Danvers the story that Kelly Thompson and Alvaro Lopez crafted for Captain Marvel #40 is at its best. The entire trial that Carol has been put on by a magic tribunal has pushed her to be challenged in ways that captivate you as the reader. Its just unfortunate that how strong Carol's story is that when the spotlight is momentarily shifted back to Earth you are reminded that the Binary storyline may have run its course. Hopefully Thompson and company are able to find a way to lift Binary's story to match the interest there is behind Carol Danvers' own story. Read Full Review

Captain Marvel has somehow found its way into being my favourite ongoing title now. This was another great issue. The art is good, the story pacing with Carol is good, I'm genuinely interested and wanting to see what's next. Makes for a good comic read. My only complaint was that this issue had no binary. I've enjoyed that part of the story but this issue doesn't touch on it. Minor complaint but couldn't give a full 10 because of it. 10's should be hard to get anyway!

The art remains beautiful and there are certainly big ideas at play. I think the pace suffers a little, though, as the words struggle to grapple with those ideas. It all comes together and breaks through to the next plot point in the end, and I think this arc is headed for a great resolution.

I'm not a fan of this storyline. I'm not a fan of a sentient being that just came out of Carol's power. I'm not liking any of this. And I'm over this trial thing and it's only been two issues. I just hope this wraps up quickly and we can get onto another story. The whole dragon thing didn't work at all in my opinion.
