The story in Black Cats first annual serves as the prequel carefully orchestrated serial that MacKay and Dowling are working on in the monthly series. Marvels work with Felicia Hardy has been smooth and reliably enjoyable for the first half of her first year with her own title. Its been a great launch for Felicia. The Annual feels like a celebration of the success of the series thus far. Complete with a satisfying guest appearance by the character who ushered her into the Marvel Universe back in 1979. The Black Cat series is showing how strong a character Felicia is, in both attitude, competence and lifestyle. Her regular book is a fun read from the get go. I am at a loss as to how Marvel can produce such an enjoyable book and yet fail so miserably with Black Widow. To be honest, that's Marvel's conundrum to solve. When you start with a Maggia wedding ceremony that involves death robots and ritual murder, the tone is elevated enough that we're not necessarily hung up on real-world rules and stakes. It handles the pitfalls many annuals face of multiple artists well, with Joey Vazquezs spectacular art leading the way. Jed MacKay weaves an interesting three-pronged heist tale, even though some of the dialogue and action were a little extended. Black Cat Annual #1 is a lot of fun. It’s not non-stop, but if you’re like me and secretly favor Feleter over PJ, you’ll definitely enjoy this enough to be happy with the price. If only Joey Vazquez could have drawn the whole thing! The art shifts and the inherent limitation of the "plot up an excuse for a fake marriage" premise are the only drawbacks. Otherwise, it's a perfect heist yarn. Felicia and her henchies remain terrific.

Lots of fun, though loses points for a click-bate cover. Spider/Cat team ups are always a treat and this was no exception. The art is awesome too! There is something about the way Black Cat is drawn that sticks with me. It's like despite her latex bodysuit and trademark cleavage, she looks more like a beautiful woman than as potential "Homework Folder" material *wink*. Idk if that makes sense or if it's just me, but whatever. I liked it.
