Nick Spencer really needs to be given the reins of more Marvel events. Avengers Standoff: Assault on Pleasant Hill Omega #1 has its eyes locked on the future of the Marvel Universe but in doing so, it loses its own plot. Though Nick Spencer took what could have been another run of the mill lead---up to a major event and did some interesting things with it and the characters featured therein, you can't help but feel disappointed at this finale, despite some real surprises. Is Zemo always cheesy like that. They just made the villains so cheesy. I did however love the Maria Hill scene at the end. It was satisfying. LOL

The ending was definitely not as strong as the start. Instead of finishing the actual story, Avengers: Standoff is used as a launch point for a Thunderbolts series by a no name writer. Seriously, nothing is resolved and their almost no lasting ramifications besides Maria Hill being fired. The only reason this gets a slightly good review is because it was entertaining most of the time

I appreciate the effort. This is a post-Bendis era story (right before the next one) that embraces the camaraderie between the heroes. Unfortunately it's not very good, and would have been better served (and traditionally presented) within 3 or 4 issues of a mainline Avengers comic.
