Javier Garron has a wonderful eye for action and this issue has some brilliant action scenes throughout as well as great character moments that catch the eye. Read Full Review

As a Serpent Society superfan, I enjoyed the issue. Javier Garrn absolutely kills the art with a fantastic double-page spread that blew me away. And those butts... get Garrn onNightwing immediately! Read Full Review

Avengers #55 brings a character in from the cold even as it balances high-concept weirdness, but it does so to the neglect of its principal cast. Read Full Review

It's an issue that starts with a lovely tribute to George Perez, throws everything into chaos and rings in a whole new Avengers lineup, with the promise of more new members in the future. It's a nice jumping-on point. Read Full Review

    The Comicbook Dispatch - StoryBabbler

Avengers #55 delivers a solid story with quick action and story developments that add up to moving the bigger storyline forward. The Serpent Society are used in a way that makes sense to the story being told, but their presence is very short-lived. Nighthawk is the main star of this comic, and mileage will vary if readers like the direction the story is taking him and the Avengers in. Read Full Review

On its own The Avengers #55 simply keeps the train moving forward, but ought to offer plenty of elements of interest for those who have skipped the current volume altogether. Read Full Review

Jason Aaron's Avengers tests me sometimes, but I'm very much enjoying what's currently happening.

I have been loving Jason Aaron's avengers run since issue #1 it has been consistently great with very few issues I didn't care for and some moments I absolutely love (echo getting the phoenix power and joining and everything from 1000000 bc). So it comes as no surprise that even though I'm not a fan of nighthawk at all I still enjoyed this issue. Although I hope nighthawk isn't around long I agree with my girl Maya Lopez with a vote for redemption

This was a bit of a letdown. I usually enjoy these sorts of one-shot issues between arcs. They're when Aaron tends to have the most fun, and it shows on the page. But this one didn't feel like he was having fun at all. It felt like he had an obligation to write it. I don't understand the change. I will say I kind of want Javier Garron off the book. His art works about 45% of the time, but it looks amateurish too often. I've had problems with his art since his debut on the run. I just can't get over how some of it looks. It feels very unpolished.

A bit better than the Thor nonsense and the art is better with Javier Garron.

This issue features solid writing and very good art, but those storytelling skills don't get a lot of content to work with. The Serpent Society is utterly forgettable here, and I really dislike how Mephisto pops into the 2nd act solely to remind readers that he exists (that DPS of his variants is gorgeous, though!). What this boils down to is a "roster shuffle" issue. This is a grand old Avengers tradition; that doesn't bump my opinion of it any higher than "average at best."

Nighthawk beating up the entire Serpent Society by himself off-panel is deeply uninteresting.
