Geek'd Out - Cameron Kieffer
Mar 03, 2021If there is anywhere that the book falters, its in the writing of America herself. Typically portrayed as a badass neer-do-well, she mostly just coasts through the proceedings, displaying little of her trademark personality. It may be more of an introspective portrayal, but it seems an odd choice considering how much the story focuses on her. There are moments where her personality comes out, particularly during an interaction with special guest star Spider-Man. Vazquez also dispenses with any real exposition, making no mention of the Young Avengers and only hinting at Americas power-set. Despite the lack of accessibility, its a refreshing change that puts trust in the reader to have at least a rudimentary knowledge of the characters. Read Full Review

Mar 20, 2021If there is one thing I would say before I finish this review it is to buy this first issue! Although I did my best, I personally don't feel I did the creative team of Vazquez, Gomez and Aburtov justice on their fantastic first issue. 'America Chavez: Made in the USA' is one of the most exciting new books to come out of Marvel's 2021 slate and I can't wait to see what's next from the young hero. Read Full Review

Mar 03, 2021America Chavez: Made in the USA #1 is a decent start. While it could have been improved in some ways, it's a solid introduction to the character for new readers. It sets up an intriguing mystery and has a clear voice about it. With the character about to be in the spotlight, the comic does a solid job as a starting point for people to discover America and her world. Read Full Review
