Amazing Spider-Man #799 is the strongest chapter of "Go Down Swinging." Dan Slott did a great job building Red Goblin as an unstable threat to the entire Marvel Universe. The personal revelations for the Osborn family made the story around Red Goblin stronger. And with the cliffhanger ending Slott has set the stage for an exciting final battle between Spider-Man and Norman Osborn's Red Goblin. Read Full Review

The first 2 issues of this arc were great and this issue wasn't terrible by any means BUT it seemed a bit rushed to wrap it up by issue 800 and possibly Slott's last issue ( not sure on that one).  AND Peter only stops being Spider-man for one issue and comes back to fight him in 800 also seems silly. It makes this issue seems less important and thrown together.  Personally, I see Anti-Spider happening next issue, which is technically NOT Spider-man if we go by semantics, and he takes down Red Goblin leaving a trace of it in his Grandson for a future story to come. Amazing Spider-Man #799 certainly keeps the drama and tension of the Red Goblin at a fever pitch, but the larger "Going Down Swinging" story gets knocked off track by an overabundance of tertiary characters, exposition and been there/done that plot twists. Read Full Review

Amazing Spider-Man #799 is far from the worst issue of ASM that Ive read in the past few months. However, it has a lot of squandered potential. This could have been an awesome fight issue. However, the battle was held off for too long, and the execution was disappointing. I can recommend it to the devout Spider-Fan, but I wouldnt bother if youre not in that category. Read Full Review

Reading ASM #799 is like watching a WWE House Show where the star wrestler beats a jobber to make him look good before a Pay-Per-View event. This is 2018 and such a dynamic just isn't good anymore. My confidence of #800 has reached a new low and Dan Slott and his team would have to pull a successful Hail Mary to make the end of this arc worth that historical number. Read Full Review

Slott's ASM has often been hit or miss for me, but he sure is finishing strong. It was also great to see Silk again.

Really solid issue. Everything was good. The stakes felt high, the red goblin is treated as a huge threat and it's getting ready for the big showdown. Although the cliffhanger was a tad corny for me, it didn't take too much away from the story and could be turned around with an interesting plot in the next issue.

Another very very good issue from the 'Go Down Swinging' arc. It is probably the best arc for the Amazing Spiderman series that i have read in a long time. It had a twist i never saw coming, a good pace and a Joker-esque Red Goblin. It had a good art by Stuart Immonen and a terrific colouring by Marte Gracia. Just wish Stuart Immonen's drawings had more detail at the background. Other than that i had no problem with the art. The only problem i had with this book is how overstuffed it felt. I felt like Silk, Miles Morales, Human Torch and Clash were unnecessary to the plot and the whole book. They did not affect the plot in anyway. Maybe Human Torch and Clash atleast had the abilities to defeat a symbiote, but the others felt unnecessa ry. Thats the only problem i had. Anti-Venom/Flash had a good role in this. So overall, a great penultimate issue that sets up #800 pretty well. more

Spidey's Amazing Friends swing into action to try and stop the Red Goblin. Their efforts are an objective failure but dang if they aren't entertaining as all get-out. With a superb supporting roster, an excellent plot, and a mother of a twist ending, this issue is tops for story. The art is cover-to-cover gorgeous, taking full advantage of all the script's opportunities. I detect a dip in quality when it comes to dialogue, though, particularly the Goblin's voice. Compared to the high drama of the plot, the spoken words come out curiously flat and forgettable.

I must admit. I have never been much of a Spider-Man fan. Honestly, he doesn't do much for me. I get a lot of people relate to the plucky down on the luck thing but that got old for me really quickly. Honestly, I am not sure if my lack of interest in Spider-man is because of who he is or because Dan Slott has been writing the character for forever and I am not that interested in Slott's writing of this character. All that being said I actually really liked this story. I like the Red Goblin and think he should stick around as Spiderman villain. I am a fan of characters progressing in story and place in life and Green Goblin getting an upgrade in threat sounds good to me. This book looked and felt good and for the first time, it looked li ke the Spider-man family actually felt like a family (Admittedly I don't keep up enough with this book). I have followed the various new Spider people and I would be interested in a book that combines them and takes on threats like the Red Goblin. I doubt I will attempt to add the Fresh start of Amazing Spider-man to my pull list, but I do think nick Spencer is a good choice to replace Slott. My plan is to try and keep up via Marvel Unlimited and then see where things go. more

After last issue kicked this conflict into overdrive, Slott pulls back here in an issue that focuses more on Pete's Amazing Friends than Spidey himself. It's pretty good, though after all the spider-events over the last few years, none of the Spider-family really excite me. But the Immonen art is beautiful, and next issue looks like it'll be crazy. So, yeah.

Welcome to the Oblivion Bar where the first round is on me and the pretzels are free! Be warned: like the pickled eggs at the bar, this issue is going to get SPOILED rotten. So, Spidey is out of commission AND is not supposed to physically be Spider-man anymore or the Red Goblin will kill everyone Peter knows. Peter does what every kid would do and play on the semantics of what was said and “he” won’t “physically” be Spider-man but will organize others to “hide ja kids, hide ja wife’s” for him like Johnny Storm, Clash, Silk, Miles, and Agent Venom. After Peter organizes his crew to help protect his friends and family, Peter eventually finds out the J. Jonah is the one who spilled the beans on his identity AND realizes that Harry and his family are the first targets. We also learn that rich people microchip their kids like puppies and the nanny was actually Harry’s long lost mommy. Torch and Clash think they can take Red Goblin down since fire and sound hurt symbiotes. WRONG! A symbiote mixed with the goblin formula magically gets the best parts of both with none of the nasty side effects, which seemed rather convenient. Good thing Anti-Venom ( Flash) is on the scene to which we find out his powers still hurt the symbiote. Being the hero Flash Thompson has become, he tries to help his injuried comrades by healing them with his symbiote but Red Goblin sneaks up on him and takes him down. When Red Goblin leaves he takes his grandson and makes him a Mini Red Goblin... like Mini Me ( R.I.P). Spidey swings in after Norman leaves and Flash does a Hail Mary to use the last of his powers to fix Spider-man to get him off the bench and back in the game. But will Spider-man actually help? The first 2 issues of this arc were great and this issue wasn’t terrible by any means BUT it seemed a bit rushed to get to wrapping it up by issue 800 and possibly Slotts last issue ( not sure on that one). more

We got a lot of rushed and crazy stuff thrown at us quick and loose in this issue compared to the slow build from the other issues leading to it. I like the idea of Anti-Venom’s symbiote being the only one thing that can take him down but to have fire and sound not effect Red Goblin at all is just there to push the story faster. I also feel like throwing in a long lost mother is a big deal that becomes a one liner that’s glossed over.
