You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff
Nov 11, 2025The series works, though bits of it seem to be at odds with the overall narrative momentum of the series. Rosenberg had a few things to deliver that needed to be put together, but its a pleasantly strange sort of an execution that seems to be working around the edges of everything. Honestly...the biggest accomplishment on the part of Rosenberg is probably the fact that nearly everyone in the entire ensemble is appealing on some level. It was a good and fun ending to this fun series. Not sure where it goes from here, but I'm glad I picked this up.

Well that was quite the cliffhanger. I would've been upset about the ending if that was actually where these characters' stories ended, but that shocking twist in the final pages does make me eager for more. I will say that I find it a curious choice to dub this mini-series a "Rook Spy Thriller", and apparently make it the first in a number of minis. Rook was definitely a big character, but he wasn't center stage for much of the story (not to mention he's kind of a despicable human being), so it's just weird that it makes him seem like he's the main character.
In any case, this was an entertaining series that was funny, engaging, and heavy at times. Happy I read it, and I'd be happy to read any potentially forthcoming follow up ser more -
