You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff
Apr 01, 2026Kim Kato in a whole bunch of different directions. But basic elements of the shared connection between these two brothers could be placed to through the pieces of a whole bunch of different genres of drama and action. If they can survive this particular story, then they'll have great potential to move into a whole bunch of other genres, including international spy, thrillers, and new monster, romantic dramas, and so on. Fanlight Zone - Richard Coryell

AIPT - George Loftus
Apr 01, 2026Royals #1 is a new series from Image comics that takes a pretty fun and underserved genre, card playing, and adds a slight super-power twist. The art is bubbly and fun, the conversation is natural sounding, and to be honest, it’s a little refreshing seeing people with a preternatural gift use it to be jerks and schemes of self-gain. This might be the easiest comic book you've read in a while. The pace and everything around it just fits, so it's a compliment. You'll get attached to the characters, the story is clear, the text is engaging, you're able to predict some stuff already (fun) and The art is not a pain for your eyes.
But beside the pace it doesn't really excel in anything else. It's a fun read but I won't be mad if I miss the second issue and just go for the TPB. We'll see+ Like • Comment
