Nocterra #5

Nocterra #5 is what happens when beautiful art, expert world-building, and wonderfully emotional storytelling come together to create something exceptional. Snyder, Daniel, and Morey reach another level with this issue. It does a fantastic job of setting up more about the world, adding new things to the mix, has several great cliffhanger moments, and an ending that will leave readers begging for more. Nocterra#5 shakes up Val's faith in this penultimate issue. With a conclusion that's sure to push Val closer to the edge and a testing relationship with Em, the climax truly kicks into full throttle. Although this issue felt like a quicker read than normal, fans of the series will barely sit still as the excitement builds up to the finale of this first story arc. It's incredible to see just how much has already happened in this first arc, and we can only expect that Snyder will blow our expectations away in the next issue and beyond. Read Full Review

The turmoil in Val feels genuine because she's been a definitely pessimistic character from her first appearance to this issue, believing that every good thing that comes their way is nothing short of being too good to be true. However, now it presents a somewhat believable reason as to why she would genuinely start questioning those instincts now, and most of that is due to the presentation of Sanctum by Tiberius who doesn't sell the place short but gives a more grounded look at it all. I definitely like Snyder more outside of DC, I think he doesn't get high, or whatever he consumes when he's in DC.

Snyder is doing a decent job on this show, but not enough for me. As for this installment, I think it was the best of the whole series.
