I really wish we could have seen the concluding issues of Gideon Falls‘ latest arc before the end of the year, but now I'm really hoping the timeline doesn't fray too much so I can go into 2020 looking forward to parts 4 & 5. Lemire, Sorrentino, Stewart, and Wands have crafted a fascinating book and the fruits of their labor are plenty and apparent. If you're not reading this in single issues, you may want to reconsider it and definitely want to plan on buying the trade. THE GOOD: -Another phenomenal issue. -The opening scene here was really atmospheric and creepy. -Andrea Sorrentino is just so good. He even manages to make ordinary panels look amazing. -I just love Norton and Doc Sutton together. There's not even anything explicitly special about their interaction this issue, their characters just work so well together. -The Ploughmen were pretty much just what I was expecting and it was great. -Angie and Wilfred's story went from my least favorite to my favorite. Their interactions felt really genuine here, and I love the silhouettes. It was a nice twist to a scene that was pretty much just talking. -Damn. Angie's backstory was really simple, but sad. Maybe it's the believability of it. I dunno, it affected me. -The KRITCH lettering was quite effective, plus I love me some spider legs. -That last page was great. THE BAD: -Nah, I got nothing again. more

This book was a huge tease but it did such a good job of setting up all the pieces for what seems to be explosive next issues. This introduced a new story with the diner guy and took all the characters we know and put them into place. It was really well done.

This was a solid issue, that was less spectacle and more talk-y than the usual Gideon Falls issue. I think my enjoyment of the series drops a little when it's not as much of an avenue for Andrea Sorrentino to show off his art skills. There are certainly interesting parts of this mystery, but I'm not as invested in that as I am in seeing cool ideas drawn on the page.
