I really liked this issue because it gave us everything you functionally needed in this 3rd issue. But I must warn, dang it gets brutal. We see that while the commander is not a fighter, the guy can take a messy torture. He knows how to play the waiting game and how to manipulate the pawns around him to do what he needs to get done. Williamson is delivering on his promise of a new type of Commander. Not a silly coward but a dark, intense, threatening one. He really is driving home the point that this guy will put the fear in you. He has two issues left and I cannot wait. The Energon books are the one universe that I just cannot wait for the next book to come out each month. I need more commander!

Let me start by saying Cobra Commander #3 is not for the faint of heart! Picking up where the last issue left off, Joshua Williamson continues to steer this miniseries into some seriously dark territory. The Dreadnoks are unleashed in all their sadistic glory, and artists Andrea Milana and Annalisa Leoni don't shy away from portraying the brutality. Cobra Commander is tortured to the brink for more information on what he's doing in the Florida swamp, with beautifully gruesome artwork stopping just short of showing the full extent of the Dreadnoks' work. I like a great deal about this issue, just like Duke, Williamson doesn't shy away from the violence. It looked like the helmet was coming off with the torch, but they didn't continue with it. Buzzer was extremely easily manipulated, which made me roll my eyes. I loved Ripper drawing the face on the Commander's helmet -- the smile added something to the issue. I don't know anything about GI Joe or Cobra Commander, so my enjoyment of this series is a testament to the accessibility of Williamson's writing.
