The Shadow #19

Overall a great transition from the last story arc of The Shadow. If you are a new reader and see The Shadow as something of interest, it is recommended that you pick it up now. If you like it then you go back and enjoy everything up to this point which has been nothing short of exciting to read. We get to see more of Miss Lane, and through her a reintroduction into The Shadow's world and how he operates. Good start that should lead to something that should hopefully wow us as much as the last story. Read Full Review

Putting both his network and the intimidation tactics of his alter-ego to good use, Cranston manages to locate and save every single victim but what he finds at the scene will force The Shadow to leave New York City and journey halfway around the world to understand what the box containing a severed finger wearing a ring very much like his own signifies. The issue sets up the larger mystery with a single-issue tale that works well all on its own. Worth a look. Read Full Review

This is a good hopping on point for new readers and it looks like Roberson is setting up something very big. Until the final pages this reads largely like a one-shot. The art and coloring mix for a shaky result, but this is another enjoyable issue. Read Full Review

The story moves at a snail's pace even though the kidnapping plot is completely contained to this one issue with very boring attempts at "detective" work which just boil down to "the same thing as the police but with less concern for civil liberties." The title character is blank and without real substance, the focus character is equally bland and one-dimensional while attempting to be a character of female empowerment even though her entire personality and world view is shaped by her love for her man. Finally, the artwork is bad; everyone is drawn in profile with extended chins and bizarre lines that make them look skeletal and jaundiced mixed with more then a few complete slips of perspective in the long shots.
