I'm a sucker for all things Vampirella and I pretty much suspect something like this would come eventually, but especially after Sonjaversal became what it became. Sniegoski has been doing solid and interesting work on the other series so I'm excited to see him flex more creatively and freely here and what influences Acheson has on everything. Maine's artwork is definitely fitting here as Vampi looks great in the forms that we see her in and there's room for some really wild design work ahead that I hope the book really takes advantage of. The world of possibility is open here while playing with a straightforward storyline as the twists and turns and character quicks can really shine in a big. I'm cautiously optimistic. VAMPIVERSE #1 introduces readers to a multiverse-spanning adventure where something threatens to undo the Fabric of reality by killing every Vampirella in every universe. The writing, while exposition-heavy, puts readers on solid footing with clear purpose and direction. And the art, while lacking the imaginative, eclectic character designs that made Sonjaversal so successful, is adequate for the story. Read Full Review

I’ve been on a Vampirella kick ever since Christopher Priest started writing the character a couple of years back. The books haven’t been great but you will get a decent issue or storyline occasionally. I grabbed Vampiverse #1 because of the cover (Don’t Judge). The series isn’t off to a great start however It may come together in trade when read in a single sitting. Every aspect of the book ends up being either predictable or something you’ve probably seen done better in another comic, movie, animated series, novel, or video game. The premise of the book is that a mysterious force/entity is tracking and killing various versions of Vampirella across time and space, stealing their life force. One variant manages to warn the mainline version and sends her through a portal, saving her before she is killed as well. The story is basically Crisis on Infinite Earths and I could have sworn I’d read some version of this a few months ago in Infinite Frontier. The book isn’t the worse out there. The art direction from Daniel Maine and Francesca Cittarelli is nice and the strongest aspect of the issue. Based on the covers and the multiversal elements of the series, I believe the artistic direction of the series is in good hands. The variant covers are great, the story is just bland and the tropes are simply overdone. I even called the main plot twist of the story midway through the issue. The story may come together in trade when the reader can sit down and read it in a single sitting but, I’m not sure how much mileage you’ll get otherwise. This comic is full of stock elements. In Short: If you’re a Vampirella completionist, this issue is for you, everyone else may want to steer clear. more
