I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. I have fond memories of the show and this book has certainly hit mark for me. With such a great start to the series, I wonder if Russell and Bob Q have any intention of keeping things Wild West and will possibly take on Champion, the Wonder Horse next? Read Full Review

Bob Q does some great stuff here with the panel layouts and applications of color. In four stacked panels he effectively communicates in pictures that the Lone Ranger has rode like the wind from sunup to past sundown, using the comic medium to convey the passage of time while condensing it brief scene. Eisner and McCloud would both be proud of this scene, as it's a textbook example of how comics work when utilized correctly. Read Full Review

I've never even cared to bother with anything related to The Lone Ranger. Yet, I cannot deny that this book is an absolute treasure and kept me wanting more. Maybe it's the fact that its different from most of the superhero fare that's out there. All I know is that I want more of this Lone Ranger and I can't wait to read what's next! Read Full Review

Mark Russell is still in top form with a new #1 for a licences property and the creative team couldnt be stronger. While a bit light on the Lone Ranger part, it is a beautiful, smart book that interrogates its premise and the history behind it. Read Full Review

Starting a new volume of a title, especially after some long-running and fairly well-regarded runs, can be tougher than shoe leather. But Mark Russell and Bob Q take that challenge and spin a compelling yarn in the face of it, one with built in room to grow, a fantastic central totem with all the barbed wire, and a firm handle on the visual language of the Ranger and his exploits. While some readers might be turned off by its theatricality or its fracturing of the relationship between the Ranger and Tonto, Dynamite Entertainment's new Lone Ranger #1 takes a bold first step for its third volume. It's still the same old story " a fight for law and order, against people with too much power and not enough compassion. Not terribly different from today, but if Dynamite wants to portray the Lone Ranger as a 19th century SJW, I'd just as soon stop right now. Read Full Review

There's enough excitement in the first issue story stride, and adequate gentle departures from Ranger characterization found in previous incarnations, to keep readers following the series. Though light on some historical aspects, the issue makes up for it with a tale less gritty and more upbeat and quirkier than it might have turned out if grimly lifted from the chronicles of time. The Lone Ranger is one of those characters that has been around forever. You know him when you see him but that's probably the extent of your knowledge of the character unless you're of a certain age. He first appeared in the 30s and tends to be rebooted every few years. His cultural relevance diminishes with every passing generation. With Mark Russell (Snagglepuss, Flintstones) at the helm of this series, it's pretty safe to assume that we're going to see the classic lawman in a new light.   The comic starts relatively simple and quickly gets a lot more complicated. The Ranger hears gunshots and upon investigating stumbles upon a conspiracy. A corrupt politician running for Senate intends to expand the borders of Deaf Smith County Te xas. The plan would encroach into territory still claimed by Native Americans and Lone Cowboys that have made lives for themselves in the location. The plan would also wall off the area with barb wire likely causing a war if the plan is successful. The Ranger manages to get out of the situation after a brief firefight and realizes that the circumstances are bigger than he can handle on his own. The issue ends with him reaching out to Tonto for help. If you're a fan of The Lone Ranger or westerns in general Lone Ranger #1 is a great starting point. You don't get a ton of backstory on the character in this issue but a lot can be inferred. I had a lot of fun reading this issue and also enjoyed the western setting. I'm also playing Red Dead Redemption 2 and enjoying it immensely so I'm somewhat biased toward this issue.  The art is great there is a lot of energy in the action and the colors accent the scenes nicely as the books shift from daytime to evening. There are underlying political themes here that may turn some folks off depending on their worldview but  If you aren't put off by the politics in the issue. I can't recommend this comic enough.  For More: https://www.gtmediareviews.com/ more

Decent set-up for the new series. Worth a read if you like westerns (as I do) or the characters. I will definitely read the next issue.

I don't typically read Lone Ranger, but I'm a fan of Mark Russell, so I'm checking it out. It's off to a decent start. Russell has established some corrupt wild west capitalists as the villains and Bob Q's artwork is excellent, I can't believe he's doing both the line work and the colors.
