Wonder Woman #754

This is a really fun issue. It's a familiar premise but executed well. I like seeing Diana go to outer space and fight on an alien world. It's a fun break and I like the self contained nature. My issues are minor and don't take away from my enjoyment that much. Read Full Review

A one-shot story shoots across the page with little glimpses of ongoing story around the edges. Still, its a bit of a rush for a story centering around emotional drama and being true to oneself and history. Had this been a lighter story, it might have been more at home with the brisk pacing. Wonder Woman #754 was a bit of a disappointment. As I stated previously, the threat of Ultraa never felt legitimate. There was never a feeling that Diana and Princess Maxima may fail, in fact, there wasn't even a struggle to accomplish their goal. The overlapping story of the Four Horsemen has been interesting to follow in the issues. I am looking forward to seeing what Orlando does with them in future issues. Wonder Woman #754 has big aspirations with Diana racing off to help Princess Maxima with a major conflict on Almerac. That adventure turns out to be just a fun one-and-done deal rather than the epic the beginning of the issue leads you to believe. Still, Steve Orlando's writing continues to be on point that even this type of filler story turns out to be enjoyable enough. Read Full Review

I know they had retconned Maxima to being a lesbian during Nu52 in an issue of Supergirl -- but now they say the first rulers of the royal blood of Almerac were lesbians -- doesn't that mean the line should have ended there? If they end up having descendants, that means they have other means to conceive, in which case the current day plot makes no sense. The reveal of the lesbian founding queens of Almerac just creates holes barely covered by the veneer of an empowering lgbt positive narrative -- and that doesn't always equal good writing.

Prelude: Orlando's Wonder Woman has been a mixed bag at best and judging from these reviews, things aren't looking up. The Good: Nothing. The Bad: It's boring. It takes away from the main plot. Conclusion: This issue. It exists. I just don't really feel strongly about it either way asides from the fact it stalled the title and wasn't entertaining at that either.

This is a really poorly thought out story that's just hoping the pandering is enough to sell it. I'm glad everyone's been psychically "touched" to be super accepting, otherwise I don't think they all would've cheered at the end.
