Mar 21, 2022Joelle Jones is such a gift on this issue, both writing and artistically, and Jordie Bellaire's colors add that final touch to make everything SHINE. As I said earlier, the stakes are REAL in this event, there are no limits to what can happen, and it's an event that works! This issue continues the event well while still honoring Yara Flor as a central character. Trial of The Amazons: Wonder Girl #1 is a certified triumph! Read Full Review

Mar 22, 2022While this entry into the "Trial of the Amazons" recaps a lot of Yara Flor's storyline, it's still a beautiful issue that also brings in Cassie Sandsmark who is determined to find Hippolyta's killer. The first half of the issue might border on superfluous with its recaps, but Jolle Jones and Jordie Bellaire manage to push all those thoughts away with their stunning art and colors. Mar 23, 2022This good-looking issue is filled with detailed drawings and a colorwork that varies based on location on mood. This art in this chapter gives off a newsprint feel that feels very traditional despite the modern styling which in my opinion completely captures the tone of the story. Read Full Review

DC Comics News - Matthew Lloyd
Mar 22, 2022Joelle Jones does a marvelous balancing act as she adds a bit more to Yara Flor's story as she gets into Cassie's investigation of Hippoylta's murder. The personal approach to both Yara and Cassie in Trial of the Amazons; Wonder Girl #1 is the key to making both aspects work, and the art is just glorious. While it's hard to not wish we simply got Wonder Girl #8, Jones makes it all together. Read Full Review

Mar 23, 2022Flors series is over. This issue and the following chapter could be an exciting launching point for an entirely different Amazon series. An anthology of one-shot stories that might explore Nubia, Cassie, Yara, and Artemis (among others) could be an intriguing approach to a non-Wonder Woman series set in and around Themyscira. The Trial of the Amazons shows considerable potential in the rest of Wonder Womans world. The recently-announced Nubia: Queen of the Amazons series that has been scheduled to debut in June is a step in the right direction. Read Full Review

Mar 22, 2022Trial of the Amazons: Wonder Girl #1 is a good chapter that serves to add new info surrounding Yora Flor's people and key scenes that have already taken place. On top of that, plot progression is evident surrounding the murder mystery and the larger threat to all Amazons. With those items out of the way, let the Trial of the Amazons begin! Read Full Review

Mar 22, 2022Yara Flor's solo series came to an abrupt end for this event, so this miniseries by Joelle Jones has to pull double duty. Not only does it have to advance Yara's story, but it also has to push the main narrative of the event forward. It does both, but not without some hiccups. Read Full Review

Comic Book Revolution - Kevin Lainez
Mar 23, 2022Due to the flashback nature of Trial of the Amazons: Wonder Girl #1 there was very little plot progression for this event. More than anything this comic book was a showcase of Joelle Jones and Jordie Bellaire's phenomenal artwork. Trial of the Amazons: Wonder Girl #1 was filled stunning artwork that fans will love. Hopefully now that all of the set up is out of the way for all the major players involved the remaining chapters of Trial of the Amazons will have a stronger balance of character and plot progression. Mar 22, 2022Trial of the Amazons: Wonder Girl #1 answers some questions about the Esquecidas arrival at the event and fills in a few blanks surrounding Yara Flor's backstory, but the answers invite almost as many questions as they answer. Meanwhile, Cassie's investigation lacks tension, and the answer may already have been given away, inviting readers to wonder if Hippolyta's murder was even necessary. Regardless of the writing, the art is gorgeous and might be worth the purchase alone. Read Full Review
