Psycamorean - users can review a comic's storyline, writing, without it being an issue of "race or politics." I didn't spend $34 to criticize John Ridley's writing based on his "race or politics," but to see a story about the New Batman. $34 later, we still aren't getting that story yet. It is not reasonable to me as a reader, and it has nothing to do with action vs. non-action part of story, but moving the Batman story forward.

The Super Powered Fancast - Timala Elliott
Mar 02, 2021Elsewhere in Gotham, the citys police department makes preparations to increase the safety of its citizens. The Story: John Ridley does a good job in laying out the foundations of this series. He has set Tim up as an intriguing character, whose presence and angst reminds me of a young Bruce Wayne. It will be interesting to see how he fits into a Gotham in transition. However, its the family dynamics that have me hooked. I want to know more about Tims role within the group, and how that plays into his past and future plans.Detailed drawings are set off by cool toned colors. The character expressions shown through face and body images give the story an emotional depth. And the action sequence is engaging and well done. Read Full Review

The Batman Universe - Theodis Wright
May 04, 2021Whatever issues that I have had with Future State: The Next Batman are slowly being answered. John Ridley has put together a great story that slowly shows Tim's/Jace's transition to the mantle. In doing so, he fills in plenty of the holes left by Future State. This has made the series much more enjoyable. Read Full Review

May 10, 2021Seeing the entire Fox family like this is fascinating, especially in a Bat-context but I'm having some issues knowing where this story takes place. That doesn't make it any less engaging, though. Read Full Review

Wow, look at all these idiotic user reviews. We get a chapter full of character, and the book is ruined. Why can't we just have action scenes the entire time? It's probably got to do with the writer's race or his politics.

" But i guess nothing lasts forever, does it....Jace." - TAM FOX

Continuing from the previous chapter, the majority of this chapter has been spent on the characterisation of the cast, which has been executed quite well. So far so good.

Second Son Issue ("Chapter") # 2 . Hamster Rage artist draws Batwing standing (with force field on) in front of lunatic; police arrest insane person with gun. Tim (call me Jace) Fox actually does nothing. Gets off a plane. Talks to some family. Minimal story; art goes downhill. OK - there was someone with a Bat suit on in this issue. Not Tim (excuse me Jace) Fox, but at least someone. Now the Bat suit wearer is the same Luke Fox, who is going to betray the Bat family to the Magistrate. But in this issue Luke stands in front of Mad Magazine level parody of white supremacist madman and turns on a Batwing suit force field to stop him from shooting at people... or as they are writing Luke has "a prior engagement with an armed madman." John Ridley has everything to be an amazing Batman writer, but Tim Fox as the Next Batman is just a boring idea...

Unfortunately after a first decent issue it went back to classic Ridley territory.

Maybe "the acclaimed writer of 12 years a slave" should make a sequel to "the acclaimed film 12 years a slave" and GTFO of comics
