May 25, 2021While you could simply look at this as a fun Stargirl Special, this issue does a ton to bring the Seven Soldiers of Victory into the modern age in a story that allows their timelines to make sense in a world where "Everything Matters". We've got amazing art throughout and a story that sets things up for Courtney Whitmore going forward and even though I would have liked more time and page space to allow the Seven Soldiers to really be fleshed out for new readers, not to mention concepts, I had a lot of fun with this book and look forward to what the future brings with the characters involved. Geoff Johns manages to make Star Girl pretty likeable and friendly. Shows why he's the Greatest Modern comic book writer of all time.

Well, Geoff Johns does it again and it really should come at no surprise. As usual, Johns gives us a perfect balance of modern storytelling and nostalgia that left me down right giddy by the time I closed the book. I mean, come on! That last splash page alone made me gasp out loud and yell "what??! It's _____!!" For a comic book reader that is just getting back into the hobby after jumping off of the new 52 crash, this definitely hit the spot!

This book is coated in pre-flashpoint wonderfulness that I just can't get enough of. Please DC, give us more stories that aren't afraid to take place in their universe and embrace all of the history instead of sticking to whatever the movies or TV shows are doing.

With Stargirl's TV appearances, I guess it was a matter of time before she got back onto the comic pages. And what a way to start a new series than with the original Seven Soldiers of Fortune, golden age characters with a story ready to tell. The way Courtney interacts with the other young heroes like Speedy is also something to add since it gives her more room to bounce off of.

A fun and entertaining comic, with some really nice art. My main criticism is that the story is wrapped up a bit too quickly: the pacing isn't quite right. Really, this could have done with being a double sized issue as there was perhaps too much time spent on reintroducing the characters (good as this was) for the main story to have room to breathe. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed this, and I'm definitely on board for a new Stargirl series.

Johns is a legend. But this is very boring, probably the worst Johns book I read. Tood Nauck's ugly art doesn't help.
