More than anything, issue #13 plays more like a prologue to greater events than a finale. Rocafort and DiDio do a lot of foreshadowing about Derek's future. With the truth behind how he got his powers revealed, the arrival of his birth mother and his connection to the dark multiverse, DC can't be done with Sideways. A lot of this ending hints towards the future. After a bit of reflection, I'd say that Sideways has had a successful entry into the DC Universe. Read Full Review

Sideways #13 brings the story of this young new hero to a close, for now. It honestly could have been better. This was a story that I remember at the very start saying held so much potential for the connection to Dark Nights: Metal and a power you don't see too often taken advantage of in the DC Universe. Yet here we are with a story that should have gone farther than where it ended, and offer more than it left in question. The series is finally over, and I'm glad. It hurt to see such potential squandered on a monthly basis. The art was amazing and the various threads established in this issue gave me a little chuckle. Well, this is it, the end of Sideways (or is it…). Well, I am sad to not read him once a month, I really hope we see him again. Maybe with someone, he seems like he could be a character you could excel on when pairing him up. Maybe with Blue Beetle, Duke, or if he has a dark side have him be an outlaw. The art really has been one of my favorite things in this series! If you don't want to pick it up for the store, maybe pick it up for the art. It's just sad that we never really got to know who Derek is, just a one-dimensional character. Read Full Review

 With the proposition of Sideways returning, as teased by the cliffhanger ending, this series has suffered every clich imaginable with these last few issues as it makes its way toward deaths door. Without any greater responsibility to go along with his great power, this Spider-Man pastiche remains unrealized and ultimately unimportant as he is indefinitely shelved. All the potential in the world couldnt save this character if the creators dont actually seem to care. Read Full Review

Sideways started out as a totally forgettable character in a totally forgettable series. By the end of the run, it turned into my favorite "New Age of Heroes" title based on the overall progression of the series lead, his villains, and the development of his supporting cast. We learn the truth behind the murder of Derek's mother. Derek also meets his biological mother for the first time. Most of the other lingering plotlines are resolved and it's hard not to see the series resolution as a happy one if not premature. I'm pretty sure there are elements of the issue that were rewritten. The comic introduces a stinger that I won't spoil but the way it's introduced and resolved doesn't quite match up with the opening and ending of the is sue. The thread doesn't hurt the overall issue but when you really think about the series plot it's hard not to see elements of a hatchet job to shoe-horn in a plotline that would have needed an entire arc to bear fruit. The few threads that are left open or are unresolved would be a great launchpad for stories down the line if the opportunity presents itself. The strength of the comic is that it functions as either a solid single issue or as an ending to the series. Dan Dadio and Kenneth Rockafort do a great job in putting a bow on the series even though I'm really down on the fact that Sideways may never show up in a DC series again due to the current state of the industry. It's sad when you see a series with this much potential cut short. Sideways is probably one of the best Spider-Man clones we've had in recent memory. The character also fits a lot of the calls for diversity we see all over the place. He's Latino from a blended family and actually feels like Peter Parker if he was created in the social media age. I'd actually put Derek over Miles Morales due to the fact that he is a legit original character as opposed to a reskin of Peter Parker down to the costume. I'll miss Sideways, he was a great character that deserved so much more. Rating 9/10 more

Killer's reveal aside, I thought the issue was a rather nice send off. Until he pops back in somewhere else anyway. Sets itself up for a continuation, I just hope the series gets it. I rather liked Sideways as a series and hope it has something in the future.

I can't tell you a single page that I liked! Where to start? The dialogue was just godly awful! The bit about his mom was just too cringe to read. When found out who killed his mom and why felt like a fuck you to the fans. Was stupid and reason felt like it came from a five year old!
