Sideways #11 had action, some big revelations, and the right combination of all of these things to kick things up a notch. I think this is the moment that most of us have been waiting for in the series where things are getting good again. I struggled with my faith in this stories direction after the death of Derek's mother, and now I have regained some of what was lost before. The reveal of Dominus' true intentions shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Despite her very obvious motivations, I found myself interested in seeing what she plans to do if she gets control of Derek's powers. As she finally makes her move on Derek, things are ramping up fast. This is a fun issue for Sideways. Derek is getting a lot thrown at him, and I can't wait to see how he deals with it. Derek's superhero adventure has taken him far and wide and has gone through some crazy twists, but it's never let him establish himself in the way the best teenage heroes did. That's probably why it's ending soon. Read Full Review

The end may be nigh for Sideways, and unfortunately this issue acts like it. Instead of playing up the innate qualities of what has made this book so fun, writer Dan Didio instead chooses to utilize a more straight-ahead superhero fight-scene approach. I recently reviewed Silencer #11 and now I'm reviewing Sideways. Sideways was canceled months ago. The last issue of the Silencer shipped last month.  The sad thing is that both of these issues along with Damage #11 and the always awesome Curse of the Brimstone had all hit their stride.  The cancellations, in my opinion, are based more around the lack of faith in these characters and the shit general marketing of the comic book industry.  I also have a sneaking suspicion that "The New Age of Heroes" books were largely ignored because of the decreased cover price. It's probably unfounded but it's a lot harder to justify a $3.99 book when a $2.99 title of similar quality is right next to it.  Sideways #11 is another solid issue. W hat's also disappointing it's plainly obvious that Dan Didio genuinely loves this character. The story picks up immediately after the events of the last issue's cliffhanger with Ernie being captured by the villainous bolt and Sideways needing to save her.  It's a pretty straightforward story. The leads get great action sequences and the minor characters get fleshed out with some nice character development.  Bolt is a nice contrast to Sideways with the main difference between the characters being that he can fly while Derek (Sideways) can travel through other dimensions.  The cancellation of Sideways may be 2019's biggest WTF announcement based on the trajectory of this issue alone. It's really hard to believe that comics this well written get totally ignored. It also speaks to the general health of the industry, it's not good.  Not much else to say, the story is engaging, Kenneth Rocafort's art is awesome, the action is great and the $2.99 is a solid entry fee.  If you can find a Sideways back issue or trade it may be worth a read. The series is coming along nicely.  more

Wow 2 issues in a row that I thoroughly enjoyed! This is what this comic should have been instead of that story with the seven soldiers. Enjoyed the dialogue except at the end. Art started out good but then was eh ok by the end. Cliffhanger didn't do much for me though. Best part of the issue was Ernie calling the Hall of Justice, only thing that would have made that issue more perfect was if we saw someone answer it even if it was to tell her to hold.

Pretty average comic series. The sideways comics try to appeal but with throwaway villains and one dimensional characters it feels unspecial. Sideways has the power of making portals but he never uses his super strength in any of his fights except one. His portal power isn't even able to stop criminals. In this issue he's against some jackback guy who teleports, sideways tries to fight him but he sucks and needs help from his friend. Through 11 issues he only beat 1 villain("Troll" bad villain), this comic series should have been a comedy or have charm but it just feels narrow.

This comic didn't offend my sensibilities at any point. I think I'm numb to the characterizations. All it is now is a shell of mediocrity.
