Sideways...caught between a cop and a hard case! Derek's got the cops in his house when he uncovers an important clue that could crack his mother's case wide open. Seems the powers that be at Dark Sciences know about his superpowers, and they've got the paperwork to prove it. But then metahuman mercenary Bolt crashes the party, puts the kibosh on Derek and gets his hands on the evidence. Bolt takes Derek back to Professor Portefoy, whose plan is straight out of the evil-scientist playbook: drain the Dark Matter energy from Derek to steal his rift powers!

This was a thoroughly exciting issue that delivers on the promise of what has made Sideways an interesting character as well as the bigger story that has been building since issue 1. Read Full Review

Sideways #11 had action, some big revelations, and the right combination of all of these things to kick things up a notch. I think this is the moment that most of us have been waiting for in the series where things are getting good again. I struggled with my faith in this stories direction after the death of Derek's mother, and now I have regained some of what was lost before. Hopefully this boost in momentum and pacing carries through to the end of this confrontation with Dar Star Sciences. Read Full Review

The reveal of Dominus' true intentions shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Despite her very obvious motivations, I found myself interested in seeing what she plans to do if she gets control of Derek's powers. As she finally makes her move on Derek, things are ramping up fast. This is a fun issue for Sideways. Derek is getting a lot thrown at him, and I can't wait to see how he deals with it. This isn't the most charming or exciting issue of Sideways we've seen so far, but it might be the most complete and it definitely provides the clearest picture of what this creative team is going for. Read Full Review

Derek's superhero adventure has taken him far and wide and has gone through some crazy twists, but it's never let him establish himself in the way the best teenage heroes did. That's probably why it's ending soon. Read Full Review

The end may be nigh for Sideways, and unfortunately this issue acts like it. Instead of playing up the innate qualities of what has made this book so fun, writer Dan Didio instead chooses to utilize a more straight-ahead superhero fight-scene approach. Here's hoping the series' final two issues fare better - Sideways is a hero who deserves a chance to shine. Read Full Review

This didn't terribly impress me. While I have faith that the team will stick the landing and end the series right, this didn't do anything to give me hope. The artwork was strong, however. Read Full Review
