Red Hood: Outlaw #38

If you are a fan of the anti-hero, Red Hood: Outlaw is the book for you. There is action. There are jokes. There are flashbacks that let us know why we should be rooting for the bad guys. Then, there is that last page, which makes us jump for joy at the idea that the Band is finally getting back together. I know that Jason has stuff to do, but seriously, everything about this book is better when it is Red Hood and the Outlaws. Read Full Review

Once again Kenneth Rocafort, Steve Firchow and ALW's Troy Peteri come together to uplift the story, especially regarding Doomed's backstory and give us some amazing art. The backgrounds are gorgeous and the Earth's core has never looked so good. Read Full Review

I dont really know where the story is going here. I didnt even mention the forgettable Bizarro/Artemis segments because that storyline stopped being interesting after they stopped the Future War in their annual. I guess it could still be a wild ride with Jason Todd and his new kids, but this issue is ultimately skippable. Not even DOOMED could save it from that. Read Full Review

All in all, this was a fun issue to read as it gave just enough information as to who everybody was (always a nice perk of a comic) and moved the story forward. I'm not sure if Red Hood as a teacher is a story that a lot of legs to it, but we shall see. Read Full Review

I will admit, if Lobdell slow-playing Bizarro and Artemis' return leads to a full issue or two with Pup-Pup actually talking and not being a figment of Bizarro's imagination, I'm all in. Read Full Review

This new take on Red Hood still intrigues me, but right now it's not living up to what I was hoping it would be. There's a lot of new characters and a cool idea beyond Jason Todd's new status quo, but there just seems to be too much going on, without enough time to really do anything of substance per issue. There's a lot that goes on in this book, and at the same time not much at all. It makes a little headway into the plot started last week, but spends a lot of it's time on flashbacks that don't give enough answers. The Artemis and Bizarro scenes were nice, and my favorite part. Things simply felt a bit jumbled, like Lobdell has a lot he wants to do, but isn't quite focusing in the right areas yet. Prelude: So Red Hood and the Outlaws has been rocky since #25 ended. At #38 I'm not too optimistic but might as well check it out. The Good: It's interesting seeing Jason as a teacher. Also we got some progress on the whole Artemis and Bizzaro situation. Pup Pup. The Bad: Not a fan of Generation Outlaw. Almost nothing happened this issue. Got a bit bored reading it. Conclusion: While the strongest suits of the story remains to be our three original Outlaws, the rest of the cast fail to keep my attention while the story moves at a snail's pace.
