Red Hood and the Outlaws has more personality in its three cast members than the entire Justice League has combined. The art switches styles depending on the memory from a stylized, cute cartoon to groovy, psychedelic madness. This would have been a 10 out of 10 except for the fact that once again the colorist can't seem to decide if Artemis's boots should be red or black. Read Full Review

The backgrounds are detailed, and on that balance where it looks like animated reality. Veronica Gandini's gifted coloringmakes this issue gorgeous to look at. A big appeal of my collection is due to the artwork, accompanied with a fantastic story is a bonus. During the introduction, she plays with childhood palettes, as if out of an animated cartoon show for children. However, Soy's detailed pencilling makes me feel more adult reading it. This story picks up from where the last issue left off and as the title suggests focuses on Bizarro. In fact a lot is narrated by him. With Bizarro's life is danger the outlaws allow Lex Luthor to examine him. Red Hood and Artemis share first impressions. Its established Bizarro means a lot to both and this triad has formed a family. Read Full Review

Along with the amusing cover (which is fun throwback to the Silver Age), the issue opens and ends with surprises. The opening gives us Bizarro's view of his creation (or the creation and past he wishes he had). Even near death the creature sees himself through the lens of Superman. Equally surprising is the comic's final panel which suggests big changes. While I have some doubts about the permanency of the new Bizarro we see before us, such a twist is unexpected and I'll be curious to see where this takes the Outlaws next. Worth a look. It will disappoint those who need action in each and every hero book. For many others it will be a perfectly enjoyable read. If you like to see deeper than normal character interactions and their relationships and inner life, it's a winner. Read Full Review

Red Hood and the Outlaws this issue seemed to have a lot of filler thrown in and while that usually makes me roll my eyes at comics, there were enough scenes of heart and dialog of hope that allowed me to look beyond that........ not to mention the incredible art that always puts this series on a higher playing field than most titles at DC right now.   Read Full Review

There was an interesting twist in the end. I think well get to see a lot more as the arc opens up and if this deal bites them in the ass. I liked how we got to see Bizarro open up a bit and witness his whole point of view of things. Read Full Review

The comic Soy and Lobdell were meant for. Loved every moment of this four person play. Loved that ending.

If you told me that RHATO would be one of Rebirth's strongest offerings with Scott Lobdell still writing, I woulda laughed my ass off but a year later, it's one of the only Rebirth books that hasn't fallen off in terms of storytelling. The only other title that comes to mind that has also done that is Hal Jordan and the GLC. Aquaman is the only book that I actually think has improved since it's Rebirth inception. Everything else has kinda gotten stale for me... Super Sons has been a fun read though.

I would consider myself a (long-time) fan of Scott Lobdell's comics despite the fact that the quality of his body of work has been (to put it simply) uneven. At his worst, we have been subjected to his SUPERMAN and TEEN TITANS. At his best, we have been fortunate enough to enjoy his GENERATION X/GENERATION NEXT and RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS. WHILE previous versions of RHatO, including RED HOOD/ARSENAL, have fallen in that aforementioned "uneven" category, the newest volume, sporting the REBIRTH banner, has been a consistently strong, well-written super-hero book. RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #13 continues a streak of above-average comics that started with issue #1. If you haven't given this volume a shot, do so, now. SCORE: 8.5
