The Joker has poisoned Ric Grayson’s mind with false memories and pitted him against Batgirl, the Robins, and Batman. As Batgirl realizes the key to ending this nightmare is through the crystal around The Joker’s neck, it’s up to Grayson to use it on himself and fight for who he really is: Nightwing! And if he doesn’t get stuck in his own memories, will he be able to rescue the Bat-Family from The Joker’s plans and end this cruel joke once and for all?

Overall, this is a good issue that hardcore Wingnuts will be excited to read as the surprising return of Dick Grayson happens here. The story is decent, but does suffer due to crossover tie-ins, but this is really about the return of Dick and Bea's heroism, which make this worthwhile. Read Full Review

Artist Ryan Benjamin does a commendable job on the art too and the book just looks nice. He also draws the action as cleanly as possible, making it easy to see who is hitting who. Read Full Review

The Nightwing title experienced a significant shift in moment recently, but there's a little extra to Nightwing #74. The diehard Nightwing fans will very much appreciate what Dan Jurgens did in this issue. Read Full Review

How you feel about this issue will depend on why you are reading it. Those reading it for the Joker War tie-in might be disappointed by the quick resolution to the cool Dickyboy vs. Jason, Tim, and Batgirl setup, but Nightwing fans probably won't mind one bit! I sometimes go to the "Reviewer 101" book and say, "I can't wait to see what happens next," but I may never have meant it this much! Read Full Review

While it was road getting here it is good to have Dick Grayson officially back. Dan Jurgens gave Dick Grayson's return the weight it needed to have with the roles the Batgirl, Red Hood, and Robin serve in helping make it all happen. The involvement of Bea Bennett in Nightwing #74 also leaves the door open to explore the impact this whole Ric Grayson Saga has on the direction for this series moving forward. Read Full Review

Nightwing #74 will be embraced by most readers due to its ending. I'm fully on board with the plot developments, but I do think they've come far too late to be truly exciting. Ultimately the issue amounts to a largely toothless fight scene between Bat Family members, which is something I don't ever need to see more of. While Jurgens' script definitely has some highlights in the form of his Joker and genuine empathy for Bea, there's not much to chew on here. Nonetheless, Nightwing #74 is a must read for anyone that's followed the series to this point and gets by on competence alone. Read Full Review

Nightwing #74 ends with a literal bang. There are tears. There is joy. There is hope. Have we turned the corner? Maybe? Will we see a new team up comic coming in the pages of this book? Considering everything else is cancelled, I think so. Only time will tell. Read Full Review

Comic Crusaders - Johnny "The Machine" Hughes

Nightwing is by far not the best example of Dan Jurgens writing. Editorial decisions made before his arrival and the then requisite editorial mandate to put everything back in its place has certainly curtailed some of the more imaginative or even standard elements that you would expect from this veteran writer. Just look at how well Batman Beyond reads at the moment; Jurgens has been killing it over there, where he gets a free-er reign. I fear that much like Ric, Jurgens run on this book is going to be best forgotten. Read Full Review

Dan Jurgens had one of the toughest jobs in comics over the last year-plus, and he mostly stuck the landing. But I have more faith in his writing once he actually gets to write Nightwing again. Read Full Review
