Despite some weak characterization and confusing plot points, NEW CHALLENGERS #2 is an enticing and fun read. It is an adrenaline rush from start to finish, with fantastic art by comics legend Andy Kubert. Read Full Review

After a first issue that mostly focused on one member of the team and set up a version of the Challengers of the Unknown that was unlike anything we'd seen before, this second issue kicks the concept into high gear and finds its footing as one of the better members of the New Age of DC Heroes line. For as confusing as this series is, it's a fun adventure murder mystery. Snyder leaves each issue with more and more questions. With these two issues showing a bit of the Challengers backstory, we can only assume that we will be getting the rest of the Challengers' backgrounds in the issues to come. Andy Kubert's art gave such a suspenseful tone to Moses' story and connected well with the tone of the deep sea adventure. Read Full Review

The first issue was an ugly twist on the clean-cut history of the original Challengers. It leads to a great setup for this reveal at the end of issue 2. It creates an emotional tug that will make fans of the original characters long for the world to be made or set right. I dont think that is what will happen, but I like the creation of multiple expectations for the next issue and the rest of the series. Read Full Review

New Challengers #2 is a more read than the opening issue. This book is more plot and character focused as opposed to the first books need to dangle mysteries in front of the reader. The plot flows well, and the art continues to look good. This one comes with a recommendation. Pick it up. Read Full Review

I'm a big fan of the Challengers themselves and am really curious with there Snyder and Gillespie are going with this. I continue to be of mind that this will be a whole-read series that works better for me but I want the individual installments to get the frustration and joy of trying to figure it all out. This one didn't work as well as the first issue with all its stories and twists but I liked what we got for Moses and that final page, especially with Kubert and Janson's artwork, delivers exactly what I needed. I'm not as hyped about the second issue of New Challengers as I was about the first. However, there were a few key parts of the story from Synder and Gillespie that have me intrigued. Between Moses backstory and the shocking ending, the two writers brought up a lot of questions in the second issue that have easily turned this book from a great adventure to a mystery that needs to be solved that will most likely keep you coming for more. Issue two of New Challengers is a step-up from the introductory issue by showcasing a slightly more interesting character this time around and revealing some interesting happenings.  There are a couple twists and turns brought to the forefront this issue I got some enjoyment out of and the art, when not restricted to smaller panels, is a good pairing for this story. If you didn't enjoy issue one I'd suggest a peek at two and you may begin to change your mind a bit about the concept. Read Full Review
