The bulk of the issue seems to play out in the combat between Degaton and the JSA. Jann has been granted a great deal of real estate in the issue to deliver the impact of a single fight, and it REALLY works. Johns has a deft enough handle on the pacing to allow Jann the space he needs to hit that combat with impressive impact. All of the drama falls in line behind that combat quite well. Wow, this issue was incredible. Artwork was amazing, but Johns' writing really knocked it out of the park. It's such an interesting plot, especially for those who have read Doomsday Clock and Flashpoint: Beyond, but those series are far from required. There are few series on the market right now that can truly match this level of quality, World's Finest and Action Comics come to mind. I honestly couldn't ask for a better read, Geoff Johns is really trying hard to make this the best series of his career. And so far, he's achieving that goal.

First I will get out of the way the complaints I have: 1) Inconsistent release schedule. I wish this would come out more consistently for reading purposes. This was suppose to line up with StarGirl but now it is a bit misaligned. 2) There is a lot going on. This itself isnt a bad thing, I actually like all the plot points, but this puts a lot of pressure on Johns to pull this off. I hope he can do it. Now onto all the great stuff: 1) Lots of great plot points, so there is likely something for everyone 2) The big fight this issue was great. Helen really showed that she is the daughter of batman with her leadership and deductive skills. 3) Dr. Fate moment was great. 4) Most stuff felt quite in character for the time period they are in. Its great. 5) PowerGirl/Helen Moment- PowerGirl: My future has good stuff in it... right? Dark Humor right there. All in all a great read and its moving forward, really building up its momentum. more

Scattered Thoughts: -So Degaton made a deal with Mordru? -Degaton's ritual is an attempt to replace the JSA with his own team. -There is an older Degaton stuck in 1947? And they made a deal with Salem the Witch Girl against Doctor Fate? -Beth and Yolanda have Eclipso's influence inside of them, and they're taking Lazarus Pills? -Helena goes to Gotham and reveals herself to Batman, telling him she is his daughter and she's come to save him from dying. -What is the disturbance in the speed force that jay senses? Related to his daughter Judy?

I'm a big fan of the JSA and love the series so far. Strong character development. Strong artwork. The only issue is that it's a quick read! In all seriousness, I hope there will be no more delays with this series. I'm interested to see the Eclipso issue building up.

Fun fast read. For a lot happening the story never slows down but it also has to many plot points so it doesn’t all jibe with itself. A tall order is in for this to pay off. Overall though I want to see what is next.

With the time hopping put aside, the story is a lot more coherent, but I don't really know how these characters align with the last JSA comics from before Flashpoint. What happened to the third Dr. Midnight? Just who is Power Girl now? I am a bit lost even if I like the story (and love the art).

Where are the JSA in a series with their name? In this "new version" of Huntress Helena Wayne vs. Degaton story, Issue #4 in 7 months is still looking for an actual plot, and really very LITTLE actual JSA story here. The JSA are really bit players in a series with their organization's title. I hope that at some point Geoff Johns gets it together. But after shelling $$$ after $$$ in the vain hope that Flashpoint:Beyond would eventually make some sort of sense, and getting utterly disappointed, I now have the same expectations here. I want this story to be good, and I want to invest in a JSA series. But this is really continuing to be so over the map, it is starting to get pointless.
