Darkseid teaches a freshman-level philosophy class in Justice League Odyssey #8. And your classmates are Cyborg, Starfire, and Azrael. Green Lantern Jessica Cruz is trying to add the class but it's full right now. Continuing to outdo himself yet again, Abnett proves why this title was worth saving. Those strong character moments would be nothing without Samperes pencils. Darkseid proves to be the continual thorn in the side of this rendition of Justice League. The issue ends showing just how dire the situation has become, as a threat previously unseen hits the team. With everything finally revealed, the mysterious premise which the series started with is gone. Therefore, there's an all-new direction for the title to go in with a cosmic threat looming. At the same time, the absolutely dangerous combination of Azrael's followers and Blackfire could cause many headaches for our heroes. This issue has handled questions of how well characters can trust each other and has changed the tone, leaving us to wonder how they're going to overcome these problems. While we get some answers to questions that have been hanging around since issue #1, not much is done with them.  Overall, this book seems like a better fit for Abnett, but at the expense of some character work.  The art is good but Sampere needs to draw Darkseid more often because he's great at drawing that character specifically. Well this story definitely took a sharp right turn from where it all started feels like and I am ok with that! Good issue. Not great but just good. Enjoyable art and the writing is about 7.5/10. Hopefully we see Jessica charge her ring fast! Now I am all set for this book! Unfortunately it took so long to get to this point. Enjoying Blackfire!

The plot still hasn't really started yet. Darkseid is repeating once more, that he needs their help to save the New Gods/ ghost sectors. It's frustrating to read, that the C JL members apparently still don't get that. Cyborg also starts to really pissing me off. Isn't he supposed to be smarter in New52/ Rebirth? Apparently not... The good thing is, that Darkseid at least sounds more like himself again, which is the first time since Death of the New Gods, but it's still frustrating to see how much DC messes his power level up. This entire quest is beneath him, but for some reason he has to go through with it, because DC really hates Darkseid & loves to humiliate him. As a fan of Darkseid I soon give up here...

It took so much for me to get through this issue. This was such a bore. I hated it.
