Justice League #57

Although “Doom Metal” is a side story to Death Metal, Williamson has made it an indispensable part of the overall story. Technically, you could skip it and still understand the story. However, the story isn't truly complete without this chapter. Also, Justice League #57 clearly demonstrates why Joshua Williamson should be signed on as the title's regular writer. Come on, DC. As expected, this issue wraps the Justice League portion of the Death Metal tie-in with the story picking up in this week's Death Metal #5. This was a fun side quest, which is becoming a specialty for Nightwing with Dark Nights spin-offs. Read Full Review

The story comes to a quick close here in the most unsatisfying way imaginable. Ramifications and stakes are thrown out the window, while status quos are changed unceremoniously and..... honestly, it doesn't seem like anyone cared about this and just needed to accomplish some house cleaning for Death Metal. I thought it was pretty solid. I had some gripes like how they defeated an omega titan that easily but overall it was fun.

This arc definitely fizzled out. I was actually enjoying it for a while there, but it had to wrap up abruptly, without much being said. It's kind of a paradox. This issue is paced very poorly so that not much really happens, and the things that matter (presumably) manage to sneak by. I hope Williamson writes more Justice League in the future, and that it has nothing to do with any sort of Metal.
