Long ago, the stranded alien known as Arnus gave up hope of returning to his home planet. Tragically, he'd also realized that his adopted home of Earth was beyond saving. Content to waste away his long life in a human guise, Arnus was past caring...until the day a young woman named Raquel Ervin crashed into his life. Soon she'd convinced him to put his incredible power to work again as the heroic Icon...and to transform her into his sidekick, Rocket! But an innocent question on Rocket's part-"Why can't we do something about the drugs on my corner?"-quickly set a chain of events in motion leading to the pair becoming the most hunted beings on more

Black Nerd Problems - Morgan Hampton

All in all, Icon & Rocket still have really strong chemistry, even in 2021. They still feed off of each other really well. Icon is more than a Black Superman, and Rocket is more than a sidekick. Hudlin does a good job conveying that to us in this debut. Read Full Review

Icon and Rockets journey seems poised to be an enjoyable one and potentially could rival Static as the new Milestone Universes breakout titles. Read Full Review

This issue is mostly setup, and that's its only real problem. It ends as it's beginning, and that's the opposite of my issue with the first issue of Static last month. But it has two likable and compelling lead characters and a fascinating history to build on, and that's more than enough for now. Read Full Review

Doug Braithwaite delivers some solid imagery throughout this first issue. The characters look great and there is a great attention to detail in the backgrounds and environment. A great-looking first issue. Read Full Review

Icon & Rocket: Season One #1 is a solid debut for me. Without knowing a lot about the series, it's a start that has me wanting to come back to read more. There's a retro feel in some ways but also a touch of modern comics. It's another success for Milestone which is finally back and delivering the quality we've been waiting for. Read Full Review

The story at play here isn't new or groundbreaking, but the treatment of the characters is, and that's what you'll need to watch as the series moves along. Read Full Review

Kind of a slow start but one that establishes a bit of character. It presents Augustus' character pretty well. He has the instincts to do good but past tragedies tell him to keep his head down. Then there's Raquel who is practically the same character of old just with a bit more awareness(?) of the modern world's lack of privacy. She really wants to turn her life around but wants guidance from Augustus. But it looks like they're going to need to be one another's Icon before Augustus even takes the title.

Based on the Milestone Returns issue, I had very low hopes for this but for a first issue it has grabbed my interest.

A quick issue. Set's up the two main characters and their journey. My only concern is how their relationship actually operates. The last panel of the book shows raquel next to the woman augustus was with in Paris back in 1921. Is this why he decides to start another crusade ? Because raquel reminds him of this woman in terms of spark, energy and personality or in terms of like an emotional presence?
