I Am Batman #6is the fresh start the title needs, as it moves Jace Fox to a new city and gives him a new villain to battle. In the same way that Miles Morales differs from Peter Parker as Spider-Man, Jace is slowly becoming a different Batman than Bruce Wayne. Read Full Review

This story creates a new normal for the Next Batman. It's a normal that does not rely on Gotham or the Bat-Family but instead gives this character the chance to grow into his own. The Big Apple" as a kid I often thought of Gotham City to be the parallel equivalent to New York City. Marvel made NYC the home to some of its big heroes" a certain Web-head from Queens, and a pretty big family of four that resides in the Baxter Building there. Wouldn't this be a nice crossover fodder for Marvel and DC as The Batman takes his turn in cleaning up the streets of NYC. Now where to put that Bat Signal??? Read Full Review

This left him scrambling to make I Am Batman fit properly into the Infinite Frontier-era continuity. Moving Jace to a new city allows for a way to rebuild the status quo that can repair or cover a lot of the continuity problems. So, the move to New York was probably a wise decision in the long run. I Am Batman #6 is a good start to a fresh start for Jace as well as the big New York move. Ridley allows Batman to fight, and a villain to emerge and draw the reader's attention, while also supplying an interesting political element. All told, I Am Batman is exciting, brutal, and unnerving as Batman navigates NYC as its most powerful ready to use him for their own means. Read Full Review

Reviewing this book has sometimes been quite difficult. A good book is fun, because you get excited talking about it " and a bad book can be fun, because there's usually a lot to discuss. Mediocre books toe the line, which makes them tricky to review; but this issue is anything but mediocre. I understand why many people haven't given Jace a chance, but I think if the book uses this fresh start for good, we might finally have a great story that shows us exactly what the latest Batman brings to the table. After five previous issues, ‘I Am Batman' begins to find its way and finally begins to firmly build a world and focus for Jace Fox within the boundaries of New York City. Numerous topical story beats begin to have weight now that this Batman has a definitive place within the DC Universe, but only time will tell if this is enough to help this book in the long run. The new setting of New York City is something that this series feels like it needs to differentiate itself from other Bat-books and this first issue was pretty good in setting up what that direction will look like. New arc means a new status quo and a new status quo means a like of exposition and set up. Thankfully, this book has some great art and strong dialogue to boot. Theres a Batman in New York, and the mayor of NYC wants to handle this very differently than Gotham does(and who could blame him?) His approach to this is going to lead to some very interesting and cool developments. Jace us taking a hands on approach to his mission and hes already got the good will of the lower level cops of the city. Making Batman a cop was an inspired choice of the writer and I'm hoping it leads to some nice commentary and moments about the lines vigilantes cross in their duty. Its also a nice change of pace from the familiar look and feel of the GCPD that Bruce deals with on a regular basis. This series is coming into its own in strong ways, and while the hook to end the issue isn't the best thing ever I'm hoping that this book continues with the strengths it has had from the beginning, good action, strong art and political intrigue. Ken Lashley is a tried and true master of making conic books look awesome and hes not out of place here. His think, dark shadows match perfectly with the under elly of New York and his faces further push the factor of a bunch of powerful people with a knife to each others backs. In the midst of it is Batman, forgoing the face mask and making it clear where hes coming from. He evokes Bruce in many ways but he also feels different, the way he takes down crooks feels more efficient and final, but he always gives them a choice to stand down. Good stuff. Excited to see where this goes. more

I'm not completely sold on Jace as Batman still, but this series seems to finally be picking up steam. I pray Ridley can bring it all together in the end.

If you're still reading this title, and the most you have to add in the way of commentary and critique is, "Jace Fox is not Batman," you clearly don't have much in the way of a thought process. You're some sort of NPC just inhabiting the world as a font of evidence for solipsism. This issue is good. I do think the pacing is a little too slow. We get so many deliberations on something decided on the first or second page, and that makes for a weird reading experience. But I do think of this issue as a soft reboot for the series, so I'm being a little lax about just how much of this issue is reaffirming things we know and setting up a new status quo. The villain seems neat, if only for their gruesomeness. I like when Batman mixes with horror, even if the horror on display here is a bit obvious. It's better than some Magistrate bullshit. more

While I do think this felt a little packed at times, I do really appreciate this issue due to the fact that it feels like a fresh start for this series. Issue 0-2 of this had an upwards trajectory, in my eyes. WIth Fear State, things had a downwards turn. However, the last issue felt like a turning point and, now, this issue provides a sort of reset that I'm intrigued by. Everything moving to New York was probably in this run's best interest when considering the plot and the readers who hate the fact that Gotham has two people using the name "Batman." I think the partnership between Jace and the police department will be an interesting story about police trying to work with a superhero. All things considered, contrary to what some people be lieve, this is genuinely a good book that I think more people would enjoy if they could get over more than one person being called "Batman." more
