Hawkman #18

Hawkman #18 shows that this series keeps getting better! The Shade's appearance in the last arc was a real treat, and the appearance of Hawkwoman in this issue demonstrates that Venditti will continue to build these characters and the concept. Hawkman #18 definitely unleashed a new kind of monster into a Doom-filled universe. The best takeaway from this issue was a better understanding of why we ended up with another version from a past life in contrast to the actual darkness within Carter. I only wish that a bit more time was also spent addressing how Hawkman was actually infected. Doom won, but the connection to the Batman Who Laughs is currently missing. The worst thing you can do to a reader is make them feel like they may have missed something. Read Full Review

The return of a new Hawkwoman " definitely not Kendra, and it doesn't quite look like the antihero version from Justice League a few months back " ups the stakes as the twisted Hawkman is pitted against one of the most important people in all his lives. It's an okay comic. It's not something that I would desperately want to add to my collection, not even if I was collecting all the Infected tie-ins, because this has, for now, hardly anything to do with that event. Read Full Review

While this issue might have a cliffhanger that will get Hawkman fans really into what's to come next, the rest was just kind of nothing.  The infected angle doesn't really play out all that well and doesn't make much sense and ultimately, we only really move about a block away from where our title character started this issue.  I wish Hawkman would start soaring again, but with stories and art like this, it seems like that's something that's not going to happen. I did like this duel. Felt like I finished this book in like a minute. Was a quick read and it left me pissed of because I have to wait a month for answears. This is what I have been waiting for since issue #1. The one question I have is how was Hawkman infected? But I guess that will be expalined in JL or the next issue. -This felt like a good jumping on point if you have not been reading Hawkman. -Pat Oliffes pencils are good in this one. - I always like seening the person behind the mask so getting inside Carters head was nice. - Skytyrant is bad ass. - The cliff hanger... I need the next book now. Hawkman under Venditti is so ******* good.

Prelude: It's time for the Sky Tyrant! I'm excited and interested to see how Venditti deals with the Infected so let's jump in. The Good: I really like Sky Tyrant in this. Twisted and seeks the immortality, Venditti ties him so well to the established Deathbringer mythos. Sheyera is here! I loved the spiritual battle. Reminded me of Superior Spider-Man. The Bad: Nothing. Art is a bit rough but nothing major. Conclusion: A great start for Sky Tyrant and Venditti portrays the contrast between him and Hawkman so well.
