Harley Quinn has honestly never disappointed me, and this issue is no different. The plot is great, the moments where the reader needs to feel something are placed correctly and the art is stunning. Harley Quinn #53 explores the expectations surrounding such a whimsical character, but doesnt offer anything particularly exciting or consequential for readersaside from seeing Harley try to jump the Coney Island pier on a motorcycle while blinded from cutting onions, of course. Read Full Review

I had similar critiques for the last Harley arc regarding Captain Triumph, and the creative team really turned it around in the second part. I'm hoping something similar will occur this time. But at the end of the day, it's still an enjoyable Harley Quinn story about a relevant issue. It's funny, but there could be more. Read Full Review

Overall this issue feels like a step backwards from the strong independent, bad ass, morally ambiguous but, always down for saving those who have nothing Harley that we had grown to love. While Harley Quinn #53 isn't a full nail in my Harley loving coffin, it's not exactly where I thought things were going when the baton was passed. If you take the issue as it is and for what it is, it's a quick, fun, basic read and nowhere near the page turner , thought provoking Harley we had grown to love and root for. I'm hoping that the arc picks up and, that Humphries gives Harley something real to fight for, instead of her reputation or fame and we get a real taste at the feminist icon we know is hiding in Harley's newly revamped shell. Harleys journey to legitimate, responsible adulthood continues. The subtle Harley-is-America aspect to the story continues to be appealing. Here Humphries continues his exploration of modern American pop consciousness trying to grow-up into some kind of responsible adulthood. Humphries attempt to address this in internet video culture within this framework isnt quite handled with the kind of sophistication hed managed in previous issues. However, its interesting to watch it continue to unfold in this issue, even when the quality falters a bit. Read Full Review

Somehow, allthis sounds familiar, like a bad teen movie. A couple of teen girls squabbleover some imagined offense, leading to alternate misplaced joy and wailing andgnashing of teeth. Eventually it escalates beyond their control and they areforced to make peace. Its so juvenile a situation, you dont know who to rootfor. Hopefully this will end quickly. Read Full Review

Harley has become a YouTuber. Can this run fall any lower? What's next? She's going to make videos trying to stop the damn train in GTA V, taze dead rats with a stun gun, or spew paranoid propaganda wearing a donkey mask and calling anyone she disagrees a communist? Let's face it - at this point she's written as stupid enough to actually do every single each and one of these things, and it wouldn't surprise me a bit. Her PhD must have evaporated, the same way my brain cells do each month when I torture myself reading this garbage, not even being able to fully comprehend how my 2nd favourite comic character of all time got so regressed, ridiculed and simply butchered, not by just one writer, but by generations (well, not really, we're talkin g about maybe 8 years worth of material, ever since Dini stopped writing her) of them, one after another, commiting the same atrocities against the poor girl. A YouTuber. A freaking YouTuber. Sigh... If Conner and Palmiotti's run was so bad I could call it the Twilight of comic books, this abomination is an equivalent of 50 Shades of Grey, a fan fiction based on that steaming pile of trash, and somehow even worse that it. The only decent thing about this comic is the art - I actually like expressiveness of Harley, and that's why I'm not giving it score worse than I gave "Harley Lives", which may as well be the worst comic I've ever read in my entire life.
