Green Lantern: War Journal #5 continues the first arc with some lumpy pacing that, for the most part, doesn't take away from the building climax this issue has setup. With what seems to be an excellent finale on the horizon with so much left in store for the series down the line, Johnson's writing continues to excel technically even the overall 'fit for trade' plotting could use some compression. A good solid issue, but it feels like too little happen. I mean at the end a bunch of stuff happen and we get to the start of the epic final fight, but I dont know where the pages went. I do appreciate the stuff with his mom at the start and how he pushed himself to go further and really test the limit of what he can 'build' but I think it could have been done in fewer pages. Great art, the last 4 pages are where it really pops. Well that and when he makes his sister. That page was adorable. It sets up the final issue, but I think this could have done a bit more to get a higher rating.
